As I said, I'm not exactly sure about whether the 6A13TT has hydraulic tappets or mechanical ones. I'm sure bennoz will chime in soon to correct me

If they're mechanically adjusted, it's not a hard job to adjust them, but it's an absolute prick to get at them all.
I'll have an FTO one day... i swear!

until then:
1. 2001 Merc-Benz A160 (porta-loo on wheels)
2. 2007 Peugeot 307 TDi (more fun than you'd expect)
3. 2009 Mitsubishi Triton Di-D (a monster in its own right)
4. 1992 Nissan NX Coupe (club car and project car)
5. 1996 Holden SB Barina - "The Nugget"
6. 1996 Jeep XJ Cherokee Sport - The Budget Build
7. 2010 Toyota Landcruiser 76 Series - V8 Goodness... - Build coming soon.
8. 1990 Audi 90 manual - The delightfully dignified daily driver

 I think the moral from this story is, don't use foam crap in your engines
Subaru stuff works perfectly fine, and did actually improve the idle on the FTO!

Subaru Upper engine cleaner.
Similar product, sold at dealers, cost me about $20 from memory for 1 can.

Follow directions, and result.

"If its the same stuff the Subbie guys use, its evil with our motors!

I know that we looked into it, but our friendly then mitsi parts person at the same dealership as the subbies, said that it can cause compression issues from cleaning something do with the valves, causing the valves not to seal.

Did you get it to smoke after spraying it into the engine? "

this is what one of the guys on the legnum/vr4 forum said...is it true?? 0.o can the seals be cleaned/how?

Yep, smoked up.
Did the same as what the subby cars did.

Meanwhile, it's the same product as Sea Foam, and it is used on every kind of engine, not limited to boxers.

If the instructions are followed, then there is zero issues.

I dont think the foam was entirely to blame in this case...

Not gonna try and convince you otherwise, but just sayin - unless your rings are on their way out/fucked and follow all instructions properly you should be fine.
I totally agree with astron - something else as well as the cleaner was at fault/play here

hey taz, i do a compression test each time i do a service..and the copression was reading on average 170psi each cylinder,
so the lesson ive learnt out of this is. That these products do work and clean your intake but take all that rubbish into your cylinders, you have to remember you do get alittle blow by which is where all that cleaned gunk is gonna go :(...my advice take your plenum and tb off and clean it :)...
