Please help!! p/s pump or a/c comp

Post by Chrisp »

Please help!!!

My engine has a very annoying whine noise. Related to engine speed. Whurrring. Sounds like a bearing, coming from around the pulleys.

When I remove the belt that goes around the tensioner pulley, a/c and p/s pump it goes away. Put on - comes back. I thought it was the tensioner pulley (rusty looking one at the bottom), so i ordered it from japan.... 3 weeks and $150 later i get it and fit - doesnt fix !!!!!!! :(

Has anyone heard of anything like this????????
I spent all weekend trying to determine what it is but i still dont know.
I took it to a mechanic and he totally misdiagnosed and lightened my wallet $100 for having a look. BTW - the belts are new.

Thanks for any help!!!

Hey,
i think i had the same noise problem.. (a really loud screeching noise which just got louder as i reved. but when revved to about 6k revs in nutural and then did that a couple times, it went away while the car was one.) if this is the prob then it'll be your fan belt... what one of my friends did was some thing purely un-professional..
He got a bar of soap that you'd find in your bathroom, got me to turn the car on, held the bar of soap onto the fan belt untill the bar got till about 1/2 way, then i found its never done that sound again...
BTW if your gona try this than i suggest minding your hands...

If you dont wanna get your hands near it, than get some castrol oil or something like that and just pour it on while the engines running...

Hope that helps.

you could try some

Lanotec HD-15
it is a heavy duty liquid lanolin and comes in a spray can

I have used in the past on idler bearings and has worked great

here is the website address

www.lanotec.com.au

let us know if it works

oh and follow the directions on the can as it works best if you apply to warm engine parts and leave for at least 30 minutes before using again

nah its not a screeching noise, its a whurring noise. it doesnt go away. just changes with engine speed.

i might try that spray stuff, but im not sure if it would work on a p/s pump or a/c condensor.. ?

its not the idler/tensioner, ive replaced that.

thanks for the replies, please keep them coming if anyone knows anything.

you spray the lanotac on to the bearings will work on power steering or the air con

but you should be able to tell if it is the air con by getting some one to switch the aircon on and off and see if the noise changes, if no change then it aint the air con
