skylines are=
v6 2.5L VTEC YO!!!!! turbo engine.

fto's are=
v6 2.0L mivec N/A engine.

why dont we compare the fto v6 2.0L mivec (N/A) againest the skyline v6 2.5L VTEC YO!!!!! (N/A) and see what one is the fastest out of them?

both N/A im pretty sure im going to back the fto on that one.

why dont we compare the fto to other N/A cars, not to turbo cars, if they didnt have the turbo fcuk they would be slow

Um the R33 skyline has an RB25DET or RB25DE it is an inline 6 cylinder and does not have VTEC YO!!!!! (VTEC YO!!!!! is Honda's Mivec  )

But true compare an FTO to the R33 Gts and there is no comparision really R33 GTS = Slow car with no individuality!

First off, there is no VTEC YO!!!!! in Nissans.

Secondly, no sh*t a 2L MIVEC could beat a RB20DE. The FTO was tuned from factory to make the power it makes with just the 2L engine and lift/cam variation.

The RB20 is designed to run with a turbo. I'm sure if Nissan wanted to tune the DE engine into a power making machine they could. Instead they simply offered the N/A varient as a cheaper car that would be bought primarily because it looks like a turbo Skyline. They pretty much just took the turbo/intercooler (and associated FI parts) off and sold the car that way.

not just that.. the fto weighs around 200kgs less!
thats what makes twin turbo toyota soarers so slow.. 16-1700 kgs, and ~200fwkw they're only a few points of a second faster than ftos :)

My Friends got a R33 non turbo manual. My FTO is auto but he gets about 2-3 car lengths on me before i start catching up to him. I reckon i need to about 150-160 before getting on the side of him. A manual would prob beat him.

Also cars are compared to cars no matter what class they are in! Do you really reckon a guy in a GTR next to you at a set of lights will care your in a 2.0L NA? The guy in his 5.7 LS1 would either. Magazines do it.

you cant look at the specs and automatically judge if the car is either slow or fast. The Soarer probably produces peak torque and power much lower in the rev range, so bascially giving you the ability to maximise the max power of the engine. The FTO Mivec might be rated at 147KW but thats at 7500 RPM! How often are you around that mark when dragging? Also theres 350+NM of torque which helps :)

Looking up specs the Soarer which is a cruiser not a sports car does 0-60 in 5.8 which in my opinion is more than quick for its quoted power figures! A bit too quick if you ask me!

RB20? Why we comparing the FTO engine to a RB20?

The way i see it, the FTO is now a 12 year old design was a brilliant car in its days, it still is in many ways! But time shows, stock family cars hitting 190KW stock, and every generation of every car is getting more powerful and powerful!

The way i see it, if you bought an FTO for strait line speed, then you prob bought the wrong car. Handling? well you got the right car. There are some quick ones out there, but even then they arent that fast. I know my FTO is a bit of a dud off the line, its ok at speed. I admit that, i know i dont have hope of beating most big 6's out there, so i just dont try! After all 2 litres is 2 litres, you cant expect to beat V8's turbos etc because the potential is not there!

Give it 3 years every skyline driver will get ones of these

yeah I mean to type no additional boost...just the 0.5bar std... hehehe

btw I'm still not sure why we care...the FTO is not that quick...its a fact...but its also a fact that its fuking awsome looking car..and has a decent interior...thats why I bought it..and assume why most others bought it...its not slow..its just not quick...so get over it and get on with your lives...

Ahhh... and now the circle of life is complete.

Give it 2 weeks before another FTO vs Skyline thread pops up... generally from a n00b

I gotta admit, I hopped in the FTO on Thursday night and took it for a cruise, and the interior is sooooo much better than ANYTHING in it's price range (or anything below 20k for that matter). The snugness and fit are perfect.

Plus with CF console and dials/needle cups and my dvd player it really looks the part. GF prefers the Skyline though because it doesn't rattle. The throw on the Nissan gearboxes is also a lot longer, the FTO box is superb, short little throws and bammo you've popped into next gear with just a flick of the wrist.

Of course the outside is just as hot....would be nice if my FTO was lowered though. The FTO gets waaaay more looks. Approaching roundabouts (yes Ben, I still violate those little circles in the road) in the FTO is much more fun too, I can just fling it through and not even blink an eye.

Hey Gav did you ever take your FTO down to the drag strip? Any indications on a 1/4 mile time?

Sounds good. I went to WSID for the first time a few weeks ago, had the best time. Bonus being that you get fantastic pics from all the photographers that show up :D

I know of a few FTOs that are keen too, incl my gf..would be a good event.
