Which RPM do you change your gear in??? SS redling around 6.5K, FTO GPX is 8.25K (assuming yours is GPX), so it doesn't make sense to me when he still in 1st gear while you have to change yours to 2nd.

Btw which SS was it?

If it was a new SS it'd either be a VY or a VZ??

Speaking of V8s, stay away from the FPV GTs. I raced a GT-P a few weeks back and got slaughtered. He had about 2 car lengths or more on me before I even made it to 2nd and I had 3 goes at it! I was smiling on the inside though, as deep down I'm a Ford man.

It was one of them boxy new ones, VY or VZ

Don't know much about these commonwhores...

Anyway redline is lower on those cars, but the gear ratio's is a lot higher, my car does about 60 km/ h in 1st where they will do 75 or more.

Also on my previous note on LSD I meant to say the inside wheel does NOT spin like it would without an LSD

yeah it was most likely an auto which means it would have much taller gears, being 4 speed.
I have claimed a few ss's vt-vx not the new ones dunno if they are quicker, but the thing i hate when racing v8's Is I cannot hear my engine, so at the heat of the moment I do really crappy changes. Though those things do sound horny what.
I was beaten once by a vt ss, the bastard gave me not indication he wanted to race, then pulled off quick, and I launched normal, I started to catch him and get in front, till we hit 120kmh he started to slowly pull away. oh I also had my aircon on if it makes any difference.
I havent raced anyone for a good 12months though, gf keeps me tame

Same here... man also I cbf anymore, u know. When I got my car I used to race everything, daewoos, and even littly kiddies on push bikes... but now I don't really care. Cos it's a waste of time, not easy on the car, and doing 160 down public streats wouldn't classify as being safe, cos one day we will be on the news...

Anyway, I find with the BA fords, a decently modded FTO should be able to beat the Ford with the standard BA engine by a two/three car lenghs if you go up to say 150. (not that the FTO club endorses stuff like this)

It all depends on your launch and your tyres.

Well I'm done with traffic light drags and I've pretty much promised to speed no more. The accident this week involving the Skyline on Milperra rd hit pretty close to home for a few people I know, and it's served as a wakeup call. It's not worth it and it's a shame it takes an tragic event like this to make me realise it.

I don't think an FTO can keep up let alone beat an SS VT.
To be honest either I am used to my car now or it just isn't quick.

And to be honest I think it just isn't all that quick. I assume my car is quicker than an FTO, and still it's not that quick. Putting gear changes and laucnhes aside, it just doesn't pull away from some of "quick" cars out there.

Time to start modding...
Anyway, I am in Cyprus at the moment, and there is this EK Civic hatchback with a 1.6 VTEC YO!!!!! which was sent to japan and built by mugen or something, the thing is atmo, still 1.6, and apparently pulls like something crazy, rapes STi's and what not. I heard it had something in the range of $30,000 just on the engine. Now, I just don't see how an atmo 1.6 can pull that damned hard??? Apparently it just pins you to the seat.
Tomorrow a friends cousin is getting his WRX STi Type RA Version 4 into the workshop to pump it to 1.2 bar, then when I get in my car I am sure it will feel slow as sh*t.

Anyway, if a 1.6 atmo civic can pull hard, I am sure a 2.0 V6 MIVEC can as well, so how do I go with it?

Well i had a chance to pull a Honda Integra VTiR apart before, it was brand new, & we took out every single screw, we also pull apart a lancer 1.6L MIVEC at the same time. Why did we do that? Because one of the formal director of Honda (Taiwan) decided to compare the two factory quality.

I've got to admit, the Honda engine had much better quality on build & parts compare to the Mitsubishi. So even they are base on the similar technology, Honda would be still ahead.

*note, Honda Taiwan had change to Hyundai Taiwan 5 or 6yrs ago, so there are only two factory left for Honda these days, hince thats why most people doesn't know there is a Honda factory in Taiwan.

I read about that civic in a Magazine, it shos you do not need a turbo to be quick, Worked internals, uprated cams, exhaust and breathing mods should put most light weight n/a's ahead of most turbos or v8s.
People forget these days the amount you can do to an na, and think any real decent gain in power is to strap on a turbo.

I know what you mean, when i got my car I have to say I drove like an idot, though i was only 18. But these days I prefer to look after my car, and have pride in maintaining the engine,body, and interior. The amount that can go wrong on a public road it just does not seem worth it anymore. However track days is where the action is at

SOOOOO many people do not understand how much difference a good set of tyres make. I have tried a lot of different tyres, and to save 20-30 dollars a tyre just was not worth it. the difference in take of and brakeing was just amazing.

Well, we could of told ya that. or maybe you are slightly harder to please. If you wanted something fast, then i have no idea why you put a 6A12 in a lancer. From the outside, it seems a bit of waste of time cos u got it done and now your not happy with the power that it makes.

Should of just did something else, or got your specs & calculations right...

If it did pull away from those "quick" cars, don't you think the FTO would be slightly more known around? For a 2L V6, that has good power delivery in most of the rev range, I have no complaints. Sure it aint as quick as other cars, but if you wanted something faster then simple, should of done something else. Or not complain, and simply start modding.

But like with your example, the Civic, you will never have a super fast N/A machine without spending heaps on it, so ask your self is it worth spending so much, or should u just get a turbo car...

Anyway, not meaning to put anyone down, just rambling on about how i c this.

To be honest I expected it to be quicker.
Because, the weight of the car was under 1000 kg
Where an FTO is about 1200, or close to that
Now, engines aren't as heavy as people thing, I thought at most the V6 might be about 40-60 kg heavier than my old 1.8
Leaving me with, in a weigh, a "weight reducted FTO with a stock engine".
Now, imagine you guys could take off 150kg from your car, wouldn't you think it would go hard??? Well I did, but it seems to only go a bit better than an FTO, though I never raced one.

Now, I had a choice of an Evo V engine in the car, but the same MIVEC gearbox would be used, which has ratio's designed for high revving engine, not a 4G63. At the same time I thought that due to wheelspin I would be beaten by slower cars on the road, so I opted for the V6.

Anyway, the car is fun to drive, but like you said Boris, I noticed I am harder to please, as anyone that goes in my car for a ride gets out shocked at how fast it is.
Next year, I'll do some N/A mods, see how it goes.
After that.... time for an Evo....

Oh by the way here there are the new VR4 Galants... SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sexy!!!!!! And I saw an evo pajero last night too!

Sell your car and buy a car that will satisfy your need for speed or perhaps something that will exceed your expectations

I think you need TURBO cars not N/A- coz all u want is to feel the GFORCE that will pin your back to your seat and not the linear power delivery on everry revrange you'de get from N/A.

FYI
The other lancer with EVO5 engine so far only did 14.4 down the quarter and thats slow for dohc turbo. And this due to huge wheelspin....he's struggling putting all d power down the ground but sure will drop d time by 1sec or even more if he's to use slicks and reduce weight.....

I went into an 98 WRX STi last night running 1.4 bar boost. It was alright... not that quick

Although I expect less from N/A and know my car would never reach those speeds.

I been inside a Cordia running a VR4 4G63, that didn't really have traction issues and was pretty quick (I was impressed from a FWD to be honest)

But right now I am trying to do up the 6A12 not for those G-Forces, but rather to beat those cars I drag and sometimes I lose to
