is there any good techniques to removing the top mounts off these coil overs? guessing i should of loosend that centre nut whilst they were on the car :/

Yeah easier to loosen them while they are on the car. Get a spring compressor...compress the spring and take them off.... please do not take them out without spring compressors now...knowing your reputation with the local medical department.

the whole thing spins freely when the springs are compressed.... so your answer is uselss

Oh add a damn plumber's wrench/vice grip into the equation... hold the top of the shaft and then take that nut out.
I would use some cloth between the grip and the metal tip when you are holding it so you don't lawso it

i think spring compressors should be used by anyone pulling springs off shocks? so thanks for the advice, but not needed. and id put money on it that ive pulled out and put together a lot more shocks & springs then you ever have. without injuries

Oh, and I just took shock and springs out of my car without using a spring compressor/injuring anyone/killing my neighbour's dog....go figure.

DON'T compress the thing with spring compressors if you want to crack that nut, out of car.

If you are gentle (LOL) you can use a set of vice grips on the shock shaft (at the very top of the shaft, not on a section that would get depressed into the body of the shock during normal use) and you can lock the shaft in place, then try crack the nut while holding the vice grips.

I would recommend a rattle gun before trying this method...

Also...wouldn't an allen key hold the mid shaft in place while taking the bolt out?

EDIT: Oh I just took another look at the pic with my new glasses on and realised that they have an adjustment screw on top of them where the allen key would normally go.
