180 km/h speedo

Post by spetz »

Is it possible to modify the speedo on the FTO cluster?
ie. add numbers for it to reach say 240 km/h continueing the same space intervals as the previous speed numbers?
If so, how accurate would this be?

Official statement: You would not need this as all road laws forbid driving in excess of 100kmph.

:D

now thats out of the way...

maybe you could get a speedo off a car that has a speedo that reaches 240kph?

on second thought maybe not as the dash is all electronic...

hmmm

Put the ECU in MPH mode and put in MPH gauges (which also show KMH) and you'll solve both problems.

Now the real question.... why?

the dial kits for sale through the FTO Shop come with a 180mph speedo (with kph) inserts (about 148.00 including shipping)... i can supply a delimiter / converter that you can install ... this isn't available normally through the shop but can be purchased for about $280.00... whilst this sounds expensive consider this...

to get the speedo manually recalibrated is about 300.00
purchase a APEXi RSM (speed delimter) 400.00
if you can't install it yourself 200.00
so say around 700.00 to do it that way...

for around 450.00 you can do it all yourself.

I already have an RSM meter, and I hate the mph readout.

Like someone said, 180km/h just looks bad plus I am sure I will be going over 200 quite a few times

Plus I wasn't talking about recalibrating the speedo.
If people here travel over 180 km/h in their FTO, does the speedo just stop at 180 while the car is still accelerating or does the speedo still keep going?

JDM cars are speed limited to 180kmh, so you won't be able to do 200kmh+ unless you derestrict it.

and hes not talking about derestricting his car to go over 200kmph, he just wants the speedo to show more than 180... my mums 1500 libero has a 180 speedo .... btw it doesnt go over 143

I don't have the 180 km/h restrictrion (RSM Meter took it off).

If the needle keeps going, then say if every 20km/h interval on the speedo is about 1 cm apart, couldn'e I just get the speedo to show 200 1 cm after 180, and 220 1 cm after 200, and 240 1 cm after 220?
Or would this be not accurate enough and is a waste of time?

i use my rsm as my primary point of reference for revs /speed its sits on the little air vent on the drivers side near the A pilar... i never look at my instrument cluster these day's accept to check fuel and warning lights...

you're not going to draw on extra's are you???

just buy Defi gauges, it'll display up to 320kph i think... but yes, it is kinda pointless if your car is still speed-limited from factory... (but at least it looks good ;))

Smorison -
What do you mean
"you're not going to draw on extra's are you???"

Also, I have a lancer not FTO, with FTO MIVEC engine and I have the FTO cluster instead of the lancer one, and I have no "good" place to put the RSM meter where I can actually have a clear view of it.
Once again car is not limited anymore.
And no gauges... it's not a racing car... (though I wouldn't mind some oil pressure and temp gauges to know what's going on but I looks not so good

I think GPXXX was referring to something like the Defi VSD HUD:

Image

Yeah and like Steve, I don't look at the speedo in the instrument cluster anymore, as I have this HUD.
From FTO to EVO......

if you are doing over 180 you should be concentrating on the road not what speed you are doing
