The 6A13 will fit but I don’t know if it will with the Mivec heads on it.

this may be a stupid question, but the 6a13 non turbo would have larger exhaust exits too right (off the block to the headers)

the mivec heads will bolt on to the 6A13 block but you would need to find a timing belt that would fit. it would fit into an FTO engine bay but i am not sure if you could close the bonnett.

Not sure Gav but i think it would be unlikely, i think you would find they are the same size

yea no problem will do, the heads are currently getting some work done to them. As soon as i get them back will take some measurements.

I will also measure the 6a13 heads and block.

I suggest you get a large bit of playdo and place it on your inlet runners of the inlet manifold as that is the part that hits the bonnett, as what you need to figure out is how much space you got between the manifold and the bonnett on a stock FTO

I forgot that was $750 NZ so it would be a little bit cheaper (not much though)

Could you tell me what the distance is between the bonnett and the inlet manifold runners

there is a 19mm differance between the 6A12 block and 6A13 block.

My heads are being done by a mate at a good price, so they are a job that will get done when he hasnt got much work on.

so could be awhile yet.

I did some reading through the manuals and the measurements they quote in there are almost identical for the 6A13 head and the mivec heads.

Excellent so in theary it should be possible to make it fit. As the clearance problem would only be as small as your engine has(which isn't really a big deal) But i guess we will just have to see.

Thanks Danny

no problem but if you could still do the playdo thing on the inlet manifold to see what the clearance is.

I dont have access to a stock FTO

timing belt aside, will the 6A12 head bolt DIRECTLY onto the existing 6A13 block (without the need to drill new holes to hold the heads and bottom end together)?

and does the 19mm difference include the head gasket? i don't envisage there would be any clearance issues under the bonnet...

i havent tried to bolt the 6A12 heads on to the 6A13 bolck yet, but all the bolt holes on the head gaskets match perfectly.

both engines have a head gasket so it would be 19mm differance plus the differance between the heads

when i get the heads back i will compare the measurements

having said that though', there's really not much point in having an 8000rpm redline with the MIVEC head when the 6A13 crank/internals were never designed to rev so high, would it?

(although theoretically you could alter the MIVEC activation point lower and run lower RPM ceiling but whether there would be any mid to top-end gains from this is anyone's guess at this stage)

well the bottom end on the 6A12 mivec and the turbo 6A13 are almost identical, well except for the fact the journals on the 6A13 crank are bigger, the reason the 6A12 mivec revs more is in the heads, so you could easy rev a 6A13 mivec to 8500 - 9000 no problem at all

as far as I know 6A13 came in with turbo and NA model, don't they?

Is there a big difference between this block?

i havent seen the 6A13 NA so cant be certain

Chances are the block is the same and the heads will be differant as the NA is a single over head cam
