Okay...

Specs:
http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... ries&cid=2

There are many fto specification websites around, don't be lazy
A stock fto would probably do around 7.5 to 0-100km/h. and run mid 15 seconds on the quarter mile.

Now, models, if the car is pre mid 97, The best is the GPX, which is the top of the line, post 97 Mitsubishi made two a GPX and GPvR, the GPvR being slightly sportier with less weight, HID, so on...

Manual fto's are a bit rarer then tiptronics, for a decent 95 model you can expect to pay around 16-18, if you want newer then it will be much more expensive, but with a 25k budget it should be manageble.

Now if you really to be very rare, try finding a yellow manual, with a sunroof... hahaha...

I suggest that you be very patient when searching for an fto, do a search Image there are many many threads about buying an fto and some problems ppl have already had.

You have to understand that FTO's aren't extremely fast, but they corner very well, and they are quite rare, and not many ppl know about what they are, even though this is picking up. It took my about 4 months to find my baby, and i could of got any car under 30k, yet i got an fto, because I fell in love with it... (or atleast until I have money to buy a newish EVO)

Maintanance is fairly the same as other cars, just expect to pay for better oil etc, and at 100k you need to do a major service which can cost upto 1.5k

These website are good for fto's

Check out some of the fto's in the "For Sale" section, What State are you from?

Mivec, is basically the engine has two different CAM profiles. So one would be between 0-5500rpm, and the second CAM profile would kick in from 5500 to 8k.

Major problems are like with any 10yr old car. It all depends on how previous owners have treated the car, some common problem that can occur, don't get put off by these, these are common with every car.

>> Alternator
>> Starter Motor
>> Engine Oil leaks
>> Tappet/Lifter Noise (Mitsubishi trait)

If you have specific questions either do a search, or ask here.

Info on my car and some general FTO specs:

How much would you pay for it?

1996 mitsubishi FTO GPX
Transmission: 5-Speed Manual
Colour: Steel Silver
Engine:V6 DOHC 24-valve 2.0L MIVEC Engine (6A12)
The sophisticated, powerful (200BHP(147KW)@7500rpm) 2.0-litre V6 MIVEC (Mitsubishi Innovative Valve timing and lift Electronic Control) DOHC engine switches automatically between two sets of cam lobes: one for deft low rev response with muscular yet controlled torque, and the other for execptional top-end power. The result is a silky smooth ride at steady speeds, with a resonant, throaty bass roar that thrills the spirit when you decide to put the throttle down.

Horsepower: 147KW @ 7500 RPM
Torque: 200Nm @ 6000 RPM
Weight: 1170kg
Drive Train: Transverse Front Engine / FWD
Suspension: Front: McPherson Strut, anti-roll bar; Rear: Multi link, anti-roll bar
Tyres: Bridgestone Potenza GIII (205/50R16)
0-100kph: ~7 sec (manual), ~7.5 (auto)
1/4 mile: low 15s (manual), high 15s (auto)
Top speed: 225kph

Modifications:

Front Strut tower
Stainless steel fine mesh pod filter
Cusco Pillow-ball upper mounts
KYB adjustable shock abosorbers
Apexi lowered uprated springs (-40mm front, -15mm rear)
Camber bolt kit
Custom Hitech muffler with quad tip
Momo leather gear knob
Full leather retrim in light grey and suede roof lining
White indiglo dials (blue/green)
Exedy heavy duty clutch
UAS Front pipe
DBA front slotted brake rotors
Racing Galfer brake pads - front
Reconditioned gearbox

This should equal to AT LEAST 160kw max power now, with 0-100 time of sub-7 sec and 1/4 mile time of sub-15 sec, pretty decent for a NA (Natrurally Aspirated ie. non-turbo) car with only 2.0L capacity

pics (a bit outdated): http://members.ozemail.com.au/~jiwan
i'm back to 16" stock wheels and have white dials and FTO mats now

that is impressive for a stock FTO

You should email a copy of your time slip to Richard batty so he can put it in the 1/4 mile league table as there are only 9 guys that have managed to get under 15sec and of these guys, 4 are turocharged and 2 are on NOS, and i know one of the other guys is from western australia and has a few mods. So sub 15 for a stock FTO is very unusual

I think it's more likely to be some unimpressive timing equipment

A stopwatch, a g-tech unit, or maybe a mate counting... :P
