It exists, a MIVEC 6A13 2.5L Twin Turbo FTO
It appears this has already been done.
It seems genuine too as the heads are obviously MIVEC, and the intake manifold is from a 6A13TT.
Also it makes mention of how the heads are 2cm higher making a FRP hood necessary.
Can anyone tell the age of the page?
And, if there is any way to contact the workshop?

Well, the wayback machine goes to 2010 with a snapshot.
That's the oldest record of the page.

You've actually "seen" this done or heard of people thinking about it?Technikhaus wrote:I've seen it done a few times, but I can't remember where I saw it....

This is the first I see it done, and the RPW hybrid motor was never finished off so it does not count.

Are you sure you're not making some mistake?
The link above is the first I've ever heard/seen of it, and I've been searching for a while now

Good find Spetz.
I was under the impression that mivec isn't good/wouldn't be good (like you lose power) for boosted applications on our engines (including 6A13) due to exhaust overlap or something or is that with the standard mivec cams and getting a different grind and vernier cam gears are required to gain from it?
(don't really know i'm just regurgitating what i've read or heard in the past which may be rubbish)

Technikhaus, if you do find it or remember anything about it please do post it up here.
Rob, I do not know for sure but yes the cams would likely not be best for boosted applications.
But, if you use custom cam specs for turbo you could have one profile to spool the turbo fast, or have good torque before boost, and the second profile for flawless top end power.
I think at the same time because in a boosted application you would want less duration (for less overlap) that you can grind down the MIVEC cams without having to pay for new blanks

Sounds interesting, may be worth me looking into cams then when i've exhausted all other options as i'm still using mivec in my supercharged setup (and when i've got loads of spare money to throw at it too).
So who's going to try doing this hybrid then?

Yeah and I know nothing about cams except they go round and round and make noises.Bennoz wrote:lol, there's the project killer... 'custom cam specs'
I bet there's a bit of a science behind custom cams and a fair bit of risk too or is it simply that an experienced engineer armed with engine specs and good maths can work it all out?

Re: It exists, a MIVEC 6A13 2.5L Twin Turbo FTO
To be honest I was expecting a bit more excitement over this.
I've considered/wanted to build this motor. But it's the cost of it and at the end it won't be worth 1/10th of what you put into it, plus for that kind of money today there are pretty enticing options.
There's the cheap option too, of OEM bottom end, stock cams etc, but it seems like such a half measure, and maybe modifying the 6A12 is a better option at this stage.

What is actually involved in this though I thought the hardest part was just the timing belt but once thats sourced it wouldn't be that bad would it (I'm assuming it is though cause if that's all it was I'm sure a lot more people would have done it)
gotta get there one day :)

Re: It exists, a MIVEC 6A13 2.5L Twin Turbo FTO
Mate its cost me 20 grand just to get a regular 6A13 working right, I'd hate to think what it would of cost to rip the motor apart as well. I've got another 6A13 here at thome that I'm rebuilding with forgies, but I'm doing it slowly over time as funds allow. Purely to replace the one that's currently in the car, cause putting 18 pound through it all day everyday isn't exactly good for its lifespan.spetz wrote:To be honest I was expecting a bit more excitement over this.

Plus all this sh*t is getting old news for me. I earn enough these days to be able to go & buy a 300kw car off the shelf. I got real tired of going to & from a workshop for 2 years & throwing spanners at my mechanics as they fucked up time & time again, resulting in me doing half the work.
