sure thing... but i insist FAT ALBERT sits in your car ... :) LOL

umm gwido... i'm all for doing it legally and am concerned about getting fined which is why i keep my stupidly high speeds to the race track... for example my average speed around Oran Park on sunday was almost 124km/h... taking 57seconds to do the south track...

Ok Steve. How about you get back on topic.

If you want to post about the Oran Park track day, can you put it in the correct forum? Plus, there is a thread about that already.

take the time to think which one you all are and what type of person maybe asking the question before you dump crap on em they already know.
Yep. I'm definitely in the "complain about legality, wear and tear and other issues" camp. I'll freely put my hand up on that one.

Like...

* I now have braided brake lines. I spend the extra $$ to get AS certified ones, even though they hurt my wallet some. Why? Because life is too damn short to waste time having to take them off again to get across the pits.

* Induction system. Heaps of R&D getting a factory look, instead of a good looking pod thing. It sucks in clean air from inside the front spoiler cavity. Why? Because I know of two people with "in the airstream" pods that have had to chuck them in the bin within a year due to being totally shredded by sand and stones.

* Longevity, wear and tear. I gotta drive this car to and from work. I gotta drive my little daughter to and from daycare. People rely on me, and I rely on it. I service the bollocks off it, and expect it to keep me in motion... safely and without missing a beat. I also drive it at the limit on the track as often as possible, and expect it to perform flawlessly and finish every time! The two uses don't go together in the real world if you don't care about longevity.

> take the time to think which one you all are

Yep. I'm the conservative, boring, 36 year old one. If legality, wear and tear are irrelevant to the "serious modder", then I guess I'm not one of those then!

So GWIDO, are you coming along to the photo session on Monday, and the dyno day and the drags we're also in the process of organising?

you old boring fart :P ...

but seriously i'm going to have to split this thread into another cause its way off topic... so continuing on...

I myself also require my car every day to get me to and from work, expect IT to perform to the best of MY abilities on the race track and make it home in one piece.

it is stupid to go on the roads and push your car to the limit... i know i've been guilty of pushing my car on the roads but no where near 100% like i do on the track... why? well if i'd had the tyre blowout from Oran Park on the road there would probably be 2 dead FTO Club members and if i was really unlucky several dead innocent people (say it hit an oncoming car at 100-120km/h)

Whilst track days, Motorkhana, hill climb, drag combat, and other events do cost money they are sooooo much safer than doing it on a public road... oh and its legal :)

Drag combats only cost like 50.00 ...
Track days cost from 90.00 ...

My preference is track events and for my money i can go flat out till i run out of tyres or petrol or i get to tired, or all of these.

My Position as the National President on this is quite clear, the club and its committee encourage everyone to test their cars speed and handling ability, we expect this to be tested in a controled area such as a race track, skid pan, drag strip, private road, closed road (hill climb and other events).

We also expect all members to drive to the conditions and their abilities on public roads whilst obeying the relevant laws.

A lot of states now have a new law which says if you exceed the posted speed limit by more than 30km's you will have your license suspended for 3 months, generally speaking the only thing i can think of that's worth risking my livelyhood (if i loose my license i'd find it very hard to work), would be a medical emergency.

50km Zone 80km or over ... this is a residental area with little kids who can run onto the road without warning, why would you exceed the speed limit here? even if you live in the street and drive it several times a day... you run the risk of killing someone.

60km Zone 90km or over... NRMA has done several reports over the years and found that speeding uses more petrol and in sydney on a half hour trip saves you like 2 minutes... constant stopping for traffic lights is one of the reasons here why speeding only costs you fuel economy.

70km Zone 100km or over as above

80km Zone 110km many of the two above zones and this one have school zones... if your flying down the road at upto 110km and hit a 40 zone... your now doing 70kms over the speed limit which in NSW is a 12 month license suspension and a fine around 2000.00... so your speeding along and a kid runs off a school bus (or across an intersection) just in front of you, your going to hit them and probably kill them.

90km Zone 120km generally only Motorways and divided roads country roads... Motorways are patrolled by police and have lots of speed cameras ... if you are going to speed (and by no means condoning it) motorways are probably the safer of roads to do it on.

100km Zone 130km as above

110km Zone 140km or over... doing over 130km/h but not more than 140km and you have an instant 1 month suspension in NSW.. i'm sure this has penetrated to other states as well... 140km an hour is pretty damn fast... if any part of your car fails you have just gone from being a car to being a lump of metal rolling down the road out of control...

i know a lot of people are looking at this going, yeah yeah not me, but everyone has a story about themselves or a mate who's had a high speed crash and the results...

you may even look at this and decide that the money is too much to go fang your car around the track... all it takes is one speeding fine and the track day just became the cheaper option, and you could have gone to at least two drag combat sessions (for the cheapest fine) ... the NSW Police have a slogan "if you speed it's only a matter of time" whilst i really hate this slogan it is true.

anyway i'm getting off my soap box now...

i think you guys take things out of context a bit.
what they guy is trying to say is that we are all aware of the legality issues surrounding any mods, safety is a factor for all of us regardless of what we use our car for and wear and tear, well that can go both ways...

i'm only new but I reckon gwido has a good point. I've read a few of the older posts and notice the same people insist on putting their 2cent worth in all the time about legality etc.

Not that this is not relevant to everyone, but to someone who uses their car on the track, its not. some of us just wanna know the facts and make our own descisions. we want cars that perform better, thats why i joined this forum, to find out what mods i can do and how they will increase my performance.

BTW nice car danny, but not even a newbie is silly enuf to go you for slips..

there is pretty much a legal requirement for me to keep harping on about the legalities of such actions due to my position and the liability of the club if it isn't said...

however if you read this which is what we are objecting to, apparently there is only two types of person in this world when it comes to performance cars
What sheets me is there are two types of sports car drivers, those that go all out with their mods and have a good go, and those that sit back and complain about legality, wear and tear and other issues that are not relevant to the serious modder.
take the time to think which one you all are and what type of person maybe asking the question before you dump crap on em they already know
I personally (and i know a lot of people who haven't commented which are in the same boat as me) are very serious about competing and having hte best car for their budget. we do take legal, wear and tear, and other issues into account when performing modifications to our cars... it doesn't mean we won't make a change but it does mean that we consider everythin before doing anything...

All the mods i've built with Unique AutoSports have taken into consideration factors such as reliability, Fuel Economy (improving it) as well as the no brainers...

I consider myself to be pretty serious about what i do and i like to believe that i approach everything in a scientific rational way when it comes to modifications... however i do care about the reliability of my car and the legality of the mods... where does that put me seeing as there are only two types of people??? perhaps there's a third and a forth or maybe even more different types of people out there.

We all had our own hole digging moments, :? & as i recall your record isn't that great either, & i'm sure lots of old members would agree too. So why made a smart ass comment like this?

I also do not feel that I fit into either of these categories??

Can members not be individual - do they HAVE to be categorised by someone trying to pigeon hole us???

As a member of the committee also - it is my job to always look into issues that affect legality. If any member of the committee promotes something that is not legal - then that can impact on the club as a whole....

Easy people, whether i agree with gwido or not is beside the point, what we have here is a classic primery school situation where some one says something, someone resoponds and it ends up 20 people pounding on one guy. maybe its only 5 pounding on one guy, but i don't see too many jumping on the outnumbered guys side... eh... so chill.

if its all the same, most people here care about neither legality or performance more so then they do money, coz if that wasnt an issue i like everyone else here would be driving our own built up taipon (whatever it is?) FTO wouldnt we. for a majority here money is the biggest issue.

oh and danny... ill go you for slips, but do i have to use my FTO??? :D lol
