Sorry, gotto this thread a bit late. Hour and a half and aircon gas does not have to be released if you do it right. Dash out though for that. Considering the gas is over $100, its worth it. Once the dash pad is out, and eachof the units underneath loosened, you can get enough movement in the aircon evaporator unit to sneak the heater core out through the gap without disconnecting it. This will only be the problem though if the heater core has been disconnected. Follow the heater hoses coming off the engine and make sure that they connect to the pipes coming through the firewall. If they do, then the core will not be you problem. Id check the thermostat and its also possible that the controller unit in the dash is bodgy. It took me 2-3 hours, you have to let go your aircon gas too. I took more apart than necessary as I had other parts to replace.

Not saying you're wrong dstocks, but I found that the aircon enclosure overlaps the heater enclosure, and you can't move the heater enclosure to the right to unlap them as the pipes going through the firewall and the heater enclosure mounting studs stops it. I found that I had to remove the aircon enclosure to remove the heater enclosure?????????

Done 5 of them and each time without disconnecting the aircon (ask rockit if you dont believe me). Telling you it can be done
Have to undo all the nuts holding in each unit though. You can pry enough of a gap to get the core out when youve done that.

Nup, dash has to come out to get the nuts at the top of each unit. Then they move a lot more. Ive been told you can get to them without removing the dash, but I cant see how even if youknew exactly how to locate each one as there doesnt seem to be enough room around them to accommodate a spanner. Anyway, can get the dash out in about 15 minutes now,so doesnt add a lot of time.
