No heating but aircon ice cold???

Post by hogan »

Looking for a bit of help lads.

The aircon is ice cold when on doesnt matter if its at 17 degrees or 32 its cold. Any one have an idea why the heating is not working? A new engine was fitted before i bought the car so would that have something to do with it?

Help please thanks

Excuse my ignorance but is that in the heater matrix or will the actual radiator need replacing? Not to up on this area?

@ phil just looking through your thread there looks like a nasty job nearly the whole dash has to come out, did you have to release the aircon gas as mine was probably just redone as new engine was fitted. Just to diagnose my own was your aircon freezing but no heating? are you anywhere near nsw if i stipped my dash apart someday if you fancy stopping by for an hour in the near future haha?

It took me 2-3 hours, you have to let go your aircon gas too. I took more apart than necessary as I had other parts to replace.
I got mine through helping other members with their issues in trade :cheeky:
^Refer to the first link I posted^ it has some links to buy new or you might be able to get one from dstocks.
Aircon cooling and heater heating are 2 different units, so one does'nt affect the other. Yes my aircon was cold with no heat.
Take a look in your engine bay and see if the heater hoses are connected to the firewall.

When I first got my FTO the heater hoses where bypassing the heater matrix. I bought and connected new hoses only to find coolant leaking into the passenger floor. 3 years later I finally got a replacement core.

il double check the hoses tomorrow before i do anything else. the car is going back to jap spares on sat as the new engine fitted has an oil leak that has to be fixed. was it expensive to regas the aircon? thought that had to be released into a container and not into atmosphere ha?

Yes it does  Shhhh
It's about $220 for a re-gas, just went up about 2 months ago.
I haven't done mine yet as I am an adult apprentice diesel mechanic and I will be doing an aircon week at TAFE in November. I get to do re-gas and full aircon service for $100 on my FTO in class.

Gas has just skyrocketed in price.

Fines for letting the gas into the atmosphere.........
Quote from Aus Government...
"The handling and installation of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment without the correct authorisation is an offence of strict liability under the Regulations. An offence under the regulations carries the maximum penalty of $1,100 for individuals and $5,500 for body corporate entities."

If the auto elec/aircon dude still has some gas bought at the old price you might get it cheap still. But I doubt it
