Don't know about power connector for FTO w/ factory hid.
The plug for generic hid kit fits the connector easily for one comes with halogen.

While the plastic tab in that irish fto web looks different as generic hid kit/stock halogen bulb holder are with 3 tabs which you push in and turn to lock on.
Yeah, thanks for that mate - I had already looked at it but it gives people an idea of the stock setup.
I should have taken pictures, but I was so friggen pissed off I CBF. No doubt I will need to take another look soon.

As you say, the HB4 kits come with a three tab design, wheras the stock plug was different...but now I can't remember exactly how much so now. The power plug was a similar connector, and was amost right, but the HID kit one was a bit wider and the plastic covering was clearly designed for some other completely different sort of plug/connector.

If you can't find a way to fit it, your last resort will be switching over the bulbs (assuming the factory hid ballasts are still working well).

That irish guy got a blown bulb and replaced it with a new ones.

Ahhh, FML.

I should have researched a bit longer. If you look hard enough you will find that the stock HID setup requires D2S bulbs, so obviously the HB4 kit will not fit a facelift FTO.

I guess that means that the only remaining issue I will encounter in buying a full D2S kit will be the OEM power plug which connects to the ballast. Bit of wire cutting maybe?

The reason I want the whole kit rather than just replacing the globe is that my ballast was reaaly badly rusted and the connectors were a bit shonky so they could be also causing the issue for all I know.

My bad as well. :( Thought it's the same for factory hid.

Well I got myself a D2S kit and installed it the other day and it is probably worth noting that if you buy a whole replacement kit for the fatory equipped HID FTO's it's not a straightforward job.

The OEM power plug does not appear to connect up to any of the power plugs provided in HID kits I have seen, so you will need to cut the wires from car and join them up with the wires going into the ballast.
The aftermarket HID kits also generally have thick insulation around some of the wiring whereas the stock HID chamber has is a very tight fit in terms of wiring, so you will more than likely need to remove any insulating rubber and take the wires down to their basic protected form in order to be able to fit the chamber cap back on and run the wires through the correct areas.

Luckily the stock ballast holder made mounting the ballast easy :-)

Long story short. If your FTO's stock HID's are playing up, try just changing the bulbs first to see if that improves the situation. If not and it appears your ballast is the culprit, be prepared for a bit of a hack job to get an aftermarket kit working with the stock arrangement.

The final piece I have to this puzzle is adjusting the angle of the lowbeam lights as it is currently too low.

I believe there are some screws on the back of the light, one for horizontal, one for vertical and another one for projection or something (not sure if the facelift headlights have this?) however the ones I have found so far appear to do nothing.

Does anyone know which screw does what and how much they need to be turned to make any difference?

Some pics to explain.

Looking from the back of the right hand side light. I can see one screw to the top right of the lowbeam chamber which looks like this, and appears to have a E next to it.

Image

The other screw is on the bottom left of the chamber and doesn't appear to have any marking on it.

Can anyone offer any help as to which one is which and how much they need to be moved to adjust.

I know I can just trial and error but I would rather know before I stuff around with light angles.

This is a pic of the difference between the connector found most HID kits, and the OEM power connector.
They are similar, but the OEM ones have a much narrower gap between the connectors, and the HID kit surround is a bit wider and obviously not the right type.
I felt the easiest thing to do was to take them both off and solder the wires.
