HID's on facelift FTO

My standard HID's have been so useless for the last few months they are almost dangerous, and one of them eventually stopped working the other day so I need to replace them.

I know a lot of you are running around on HID's these days so I was after some info.
Have any of you with facelift FTO's replaced the standard HID's which came with your car yet?
What is needed to replace them? Is it just a bulb or a whole unit - is there anything you need to be careful with?

HB4's in something like 10000k is normal for low beam yeah?
Any brands which are recommended?

I got HID's and was trying to install them yesterday. You have to becareful cause if you do what i did and u get the (what i believe to be wrong ones) you may have to end up shaving some of the plastic bit off the end to fit it in... You also gotta be careful to make sure u get the right connections for high beams and low beams cause they have a different connection to the car as i found out last night lol.

to answer your question it is a full kit. But you can just buy the bulbs which are no where near as good.

I got HB4's 8k for my high beams and im going to go 6 for my lows. all a matter of what colour your wanting really.

Um things to be careful of... make sure you get the right size, dont touch the bulbs... and make sure the car is off when changing... (of you didnt already know)

As for brands im not 100% sure lol.

I thought that HB3's were for high beam, HB4's were for low beam.
Maybe that is why you are having trouble fitting them ?

yea man, hb4 for low beam , hb3 for high beam.
hid kit consists of the ballast and bulb.
if you blown your ballast then it'd be easier to just source for a new complete kit.

as for the bulb,

12k is purple tint
10k is blue tint.
6k is little bluish
5k is pure white
4k is sunshine color
3k is golden yellow.

light visibility decreases with the color temp going up.

Yeh i know this... i got hb4;s for my highs but they are the wrong connection soooo im just gonna grind it down a bit lolz

Thanks for the responses guys, however I am still after input from facelift owners.

If I need to replace the standard HB4 lowbeams, do I just need to get the globes and plug them in to the stock setup, or do I need a whole new kit due to differences required in connections/wiring?

Also what brands would people recommend, and are there any good places to get them from apart from ebay?

Well for the HID's they come as a kit... for the proper HID's

If you just want a dodgy one from supercheap or autobarn... its just the globes which will jsut go straight in... no kit or nothing.

The kits are the proper ones that will give you that brighter blue or white colour. If you need want to replace your bulbs and dont really care bout the colour youll be fine with just going to supercheap or autobarn and buying new bulbs.

I ended up ordering in a HB4 kit in 8000k so I'm hoping it will all go in sweet with the stock setup and actually allow me to see at night

However, after having a look under the bonnet I was wondering if I need to remove the headlights to install the new HID's? Or can it be done, albeit with a bit of a squeeze, with the headlights staying in place?

If they headlights do need to be taken off, does the bumper definitely need to be removed or can they be taken off separately to the bumper?

If you end up needing to take the headlight out, itll definitely be bumper off. If you need to remove the old ballasts, same goes. You should b able to change the bulbs without taking the headlights out, but it is tight.

Well, the ballasts are underneath the headlights, in a gold colored box. (At least mine are)

And if you're looking for a place to put the new balasts in and it wont fit into the stock ballast holder, just do what others have done, like the cable tie methods and all.

Well considering I bought my car with the blue/black items and then sold them because I really didn't like the look I would have to say not quite.

However when I saw your car with your porn offset I almost hung myself at being so stupid as to get rid of them. But then again I don't have a blue FTO and I didn't have the silver items so it was never meant to be.

Son of a bitch!!!!!!!

Removing front bar was a bitch. Took me ages to find the bolts that connect to the chassis.
Took the lights out, disassembled one and the HB4 kit I have does NOT fit.
The connector to the car power is different and the plastic light bulb socket is completely different with tabs in different places so that it doesn't fit snugly in the holder. WTF!! Is this some weird ass Mitsubishi proprietary HID crap or what? Sooooooo pissed off right now.

Had to put everything back on again as I need the car tonight. FML.

Can anyone help me with this? I REALLY need to replace the stock HID's and I am lost as to how to do it now.
THe HB4 or 9006 kit I have does not seem to fit the stock FTO setup and I can't tell if I have been sold something dodgy or if the stock setup is a bit different.

The plug to the car power and plastic tabs for where the light globe sits were wrong.

Don't know about power connector for FTO w/ factory hid.
The plug for generic hid kit fits the connector easily for one comes with halogen.

While the plastic tab in that irish fto web looks different as generic hid kit/stock halogen bulb holder are with 3 tabs which you push in and turn to lock on.
