fto noob question

Post by FTOgpx96 »

ive never had a mivec engine in a car before so im not sure if this is normal or not but when i open it right up foot flat to the floor the i can here the exhaust note change at high rpm 4,500+ and then it stays changed at the same style of not for a while at low rpm, sounds almost like its dropped a cylinder, could i be loosing spark on one or is it because of the variable valve timing?

Tried to de-compose your message but couldn't get through it all lol. Could you try to re-word it for us?

Mivec should kick in at 5500 RPM and thats when the note changes over, as soon as you shift up into the next gear should go back into the normal note until you hit 5500 again.
Unless you have a mivec/VTEC YO!!!!! controller and has changed it to 4500 I'm not sure.

you pretty much hit the nail on the head, i know it happens after 4,500rpm and the note changes but after ive backed off the note still stays changed for a while even at lower RPM and going easy is it surpose to do that? if its not what would be the cause of this

What gear are you in when you let of the throttle?

when i drop to third after a good rev it notes a bit deeper.

I've also got an hks exhaust & pod so maybe thats the reason. are you completely stock?

Yeah i'm preety sure if you drive up to 5500k + (Enough to engage mivec) then let it rev down it will stay in mivec until you put your clutch in your change gears.

Not 100% though.

As soon as you drop back under 5500rpm the engine will drop off the mivec cams.
You don't need to change gears or put the clutch in for it to drop out of the mivec range.

When you hit around 4000rpms(or somewhere in the 4000~5000 range), the engine note gets that 'heavy' sound, its sorta like the engine is preparing for the mivec cams, then at 5500, Bang! that is the Mivec, it just kicked in yow!

sounds tough driving it through the twisties, double clutching back into high rpm and flooring it out the other side.

try yelling at random objects coz ya just hurt yaself on them :)

took my fto for a drive again just before couldnt help myself. driving that car is better than sex. probably coz im not getting any lol but we wont go into that but i did some listening of the engine for the mivec change over on the cams and kept and eye on the RPM, now at 5,200rpm got the pop and note change but wasnt the one i keep hearing, the one im hearing starts between 4,500 amd 5,500 and its a poping exhaust noise sounds like a subby wrx with its balls cut off or a porche 911 turbo and it happens at random between the rpm and not every time so im guessing there would definatly be something wrong here, could be something as simple as a dodgy spark plug or connection coz when it happens im not getting and engine check light come on so yeah ill pull the intake off tomorrow and see what i can find
