You could get by with one, but it won't cost much more to run extra cable for redundancy at this stage of construction.

Well you've obviously never tried to stream 1080p video from a server over a wireless network now have you?silverGPX wrote:Or you guys could stop being silly and just get a N-Spec Wireless router with the 4 antennas, instead of all the wiring and switches. Hey even chuck high DB antennas on the thing.
Haha this is the setup at our Disaster Recovery siteSupplanter wrote:
I think what he said is don't buy a wirelss n router there not as good as there made out to be. And his picture says get an extended antenna to get a stronger signal and better distance.Bennoz wrote: N is a toss anyway, its just a combination of B & G protocols. Still runs on the same congested frequency.
You want stability, go high end APs with A on the 5Ghz band.
This is true if your playing through iTunes, but why the hell would you want that piece of crap software! There may be an app for another program though, havn't looked into it.I8A4RE wrote: I read somewhere that an Ipad or Iphone can do this wirelessly.

A simple solution would be to wire the speakers out on the deck to the computer in your study. Play them from the computer and just get a long range media remote control or keyboard to control it all.I8A4RE wrote:Ok that sh*t right there...just lost me.
Right ok, scenario time.
I want to be able to sit out on my deck, drinking a beer and listening to music that is stored on pc in the study.
I want to wire in speakers all around the house and so my issue's are as follows:
how do I get the music from the pc to the speakers remotely. eg I dont want to have to get up everytime to change song alter volume etc. Is there remote or something. I read somewhere that an Ipad or Iphone can do this wirelessly.
I also would like to have zones eg playing on song in the bedroom and one song on the deck. I realise I need media players just cant invisage how it is all going to come together
Correct, as long as her laptop or network media player is connected to the network you can both retrieve content you've stored on the home server pc that you've placed in the study. So she can listen to music off a device in one room of the house, while your out on the deck listening to music or watching something at the same time. You could both be streaming the same music out of the same folder from the home server pc at the same time without any issues.I8A4RE wrote:f**k yeah!!! now that is what I am talking about.
So in this scenario, I could listen to music on the deck, while the misses was watching a movie in the bedroom as long as there was a media player in there???????

Yeah, cabling shouldnt be too expensive and with hard drives becoming dirt cheap, you can just pop a few 2TB in there and raid them for very little. Can get them about $130 each now.Kustom_FTO wrote:It wouldn't cost more then 150 to run all those wires i wouldn't think.
