How does an FTO feel to drive?

Post by MYVEC »

Hello all, i'm looking to buy an FTO, i test drove my first one today i must say the car was verry nice :D but the drive was bad. the car felt very heavy like driving a truck and took a lot of effort (maybe the power stearing is gone?) is this how it's meant to feel?

please tell me it was a lemon and that this car is really a pleasure to drive...

When you say 'heavy' are you only referring to the steering only or the car's acceleration?

Check the buy section in the forum, there are some nice cars for sale. What's your budget like?

The sluggish acceleration, do you feel it in 1st gear? or were you trying to accelerate when you were in 3rd, 4th gear at low revs?

Sounds like a lemon but can't be 100%. Depends on model, transmission and condition as well so yeah. A nice fto is awesome to drive, contrary to what most would believe...and for a 10+ year old V6, they go pretty decent if that's what you're after (if you want a fastish one, get a manual with mivec preferably...fastest one out of the box).

Test drive a few more ;) they're definitely not like a truck though, unless they're buggered..

3.5-4.0L v6's have around twice the torque of the 2.0L v6's... probably at lower rpms aswell.. so they'll feel more ready to go.... the fto is still faster though :) and more fuel efficient, and lighter, more nimble etc.

    what was your previous car???

The steering is heavier than most other cars, but you get use to it, and I prefer heavier steering, gives more feel than other light streering cars.
