Question About Scrapes On Front and Rear Bumper

Ok so im probably asking a stupid question here , but honestly Iv found answers too all my little questions from people in these forums ... Id be stupid not to ask incase someones got some golden little remedy for this ...

Scrapes on the underside front bumper and rear bumper ...

You know it ... Your leaving someones driveway , not paying attention , than SCRRAAAAAPE .. you rip the sh*t out of your front bumper ...

Does anyone have any remedies for cleaning up the scratches under the bumpers ? other than repainting it ? ..

Also the person I had bought my FTO from had obviously been on some extreme angles because the rear bumper has some serious scrapes underneath .. God knows what they were doing but when I get down on my hands and knees it annoys me ... Looks like they've been pulling sits down the road in the thing..

Im not going to go as far as respraying them, , as ill probably just scratch it up again after a big night leaving a steep driveway ... but any other tips would be welcome ...

i dont think youll be able to hide the scratches without respraying the car, but i should be able to help you on repairing the scratches and painting them yourself if youre interested in that.

shouldnt cost u more than $200 if that to get your local panel beater to fix it up anyway

honestly, if they're underneath and u cant see them, and your kit isn't cracked then you shouldnt really bother cos no matter how careful u are, u'll always end up somewhere where u'll scratch it again.. as long as u dont crack it, or scratch it where everyone can see, then it doesnt matter.

And you really dont have much choice apart from repainting it, since the scratches are on the paint. .and all u can do is repaint it - which is no point since no1 can see it

Yea im not that worried , but some of the ones on the back bumper are deep .. like , f*ck knows what this person was doing but theres like 6 long deep cuts into the bumper ...

Theres some paint chip on the back next to the FTO logo aswell which im trying to fix , but been pretty unsuccessful ..

Does anyone know where I can get a good sized tin on touchup paint for the silver ?? Or at least what the silver is called so i can try find some ?? .

jonowong has a little DIY somewhere on bogging fibreglass, u might as well do this before u touch it up.

I've repaired plastic bumper scratches before... only on the undersides thou. Good sand back with some heavy grit paper & a can of spray putty did the trick for me. Bit more sanding with lighter grit paper, then an attempted spray can touch up & blend she look 100% on what it was.

There are also people about that specialize in plastic bumper repairs. They are usually mobile guys too.

If I can just comment on the touch up paint - don't do it. It'll stand out more than the crack in the paint. My friend's used some touch up paint on his camry and u can clearly see it cos it's just more shinier and u can spot it way easier than u could the scratch that he had.
I've got a massive key mark on my passanger side door, but I won't use touch up paint as it'll just make it more noticeable.

if its under the car u want see it very well as per your last post..

if u use some touch up paint...u need to polish it good to blend it in as much as possible,,

Yep I had an aerosole of my paint made up & after it dryed, a good cut & polish blended it as well as it needed to be.

urs is the normal red that ftos come in right?
where did u get the paint, etc... i need it, the guy that sold me the car patched the chips with that lipstick look alike thingo, and it all just came off in the first proper wash lol.

95% of all Jap colours can be matched by most auto shops. Mine is R71B (passion Red), which translated to an aus spec paint which was the same a Mazda red (cant recall the code)

I just went up to my local Auto one shop with that code R71B, told him it was an import, he cross referenced the code, then went & made me up an areosole on the spot

There's 2 Silvers. It should be stamped on one of the plates on the bulkhead of your car.

You only see the Symphonic on facelift FTO's though (and im pretty sure the other silver is only on pre facelift)

yeah dude, if they're on the underside of your bumper, no serious damage to it, and can't be seen by anyone ecept your mechanic when he hoists it up, then you don't really need to repair them, until you sell it I suppose .. I always tend to check the underside of the car, wheel arches when I am looking at getting a car - just to check that it hasnt' been bashed around way too much .
