Strut Brace

Post by MissxFTO »

Well i did an ebay job on a strut brace...
and i feel pretty stupid right now..
my crappy diagram will hopefully explain a few things..

no matter which way you put it.. it just dont go.. it would break the bolts if if tried to force it.. OR im just pretty stupid and cant do it.. :? lots of swearing involved in trying to put it on my car.. i even let the engineer next door try n put it on haha.. :(

Image

Those fork things i thought were ment to go straight across your engine? and they dont they go into a 5 degree angle into the cars wall.!
the idiot from ebay said it would fit my car GRRRR lies..
Anyone who has got one.. where did you get it from? coz ill be either turfing this one and buying a newey or making up some more of those circle brackets.

I'd go a whiteline one

I've seen those ebay strut braces, their craftsmanship is so poor that I think they offer no extra added rigidity
They will just happily twist/flex with your chassis!

I bought brand new whiteline front and rear for $170 each from whiteline. It's for a lancer but as people mentioned they do fit FTO

Or if you want to go hardcore, the Evo 3 point Cusco ones fit as well :)

Folks lets not forget that just because an item is bought off ebay doesn't make it dodgey. It certainly appears so in this case but stereotyping makes me a sad Panda.

Evo III doesn't fit on FTO so it can't be it
Only rear Evo III would fit
Front has different bolt pattern up top

at least it wasnt something too expensive, how much did u buy it for? like 80$?

lol spot on.. $80

im getting a refund spoke to the guy (he seems to think it fits, im thinking maybe he sent me the wrong one.)

i would rather spend the $180 on a whiteline.
Just thought i would take my chances and see how a strut brace from good ol ebay would do. Learnt my lesson. :P

Im having a tough time finding FTO struts and was wondering, what other Mitsi car braces do they take? It seems more likely I can get my hands on some Legnum or Lancer struts.

Second, are the front and the rear actually the same or different? Like if I got a pair from a Lancer say, would I be able to attach to the front and rear or not?

Lastly. Wheel realignment after installation? It maybe a good idea anyways as my fronts have 4mm of tread and the rears have 7mm so it would be handy.
