Are these dyno readings right?
I just had my car serviced and at the same time fitted a K&N panel filter...
Car was dyno'd before the service and got 92kw @ the wheels...it was dyno'd again after the service (and panel filter fitted) to get 94kw @ the wheels...
This seems pretty high for an almost stock fto..
Btw, its only a 1998 GR...

dyno reading
I agree with stephen every dyno is different. Though 90 kw at the wheels seems a bit high. Something must be wrong with my car as i only got 135kw with a turbo gpx still ramp rates, air temp etc do affect readings , in my case a rooted torque converter probably didnt help. Maybe your engine is in very good condition. How many kms has it done?

dyno results
I have no idea what the fly wheel figure would be. Zoom did an article on a turbo fto that when it was stock produced 79kw (stock mivec tip), by the time theyd finished it produced 121kw at the wheels (7psi boost). Why stephen is getting 100kw at the wheels with only minor mods, dunno. Why are you getting 94kw at the wheels with a stock gr engine, dunno. Dynos must vary a great deal? Every car and dyno is different but i wouldnt expect there to be such a huge difference. The bloke that dynod my car reckons 79-80kw at the wheels is about right for a good stock tip gpx , at least in his experience anyway (hes donne a few of them). In which case ive gained about a 60% which is what id expect for 7psi boost (assuming fueling etc is right). Maybe stephen might have some answers as to why the variances are so big. The only answer i can think of is that the bloke that dynos each individual car must be using different ramp rates to make the figures look better? At the end of the day as long as your car is fast enough to put that smile on your face after a good caneing, figures dont really mean much.

To work aout the "at the flywheel kw", I think you divide the "at the wheels kw" by 0.7
So 94/0.7=134kw (approx)
But then again, it's a tiptronic and I remember reading another post where it said you may need to divide by 0.6 to get the "at the flywheel kw" for a tiptronic.
Do a search for the message, coz Im not to sure.

You've probably got one of the newest FTOs around here. 1998 models are rare to come by, even if it's a GX.
There's too many factors in a dyno, tyres for example come play a big part. Big heavy wheels aren't going to help much on a dyno.
I think the newer dynos can connect directly to the wheel hubs (without the wheels).

mines a GR 1995 and it had 92kw at the wheel standard, this was before all my mods, after piggyback got to 98kw
this was a AVO in melbourne on a day when it was over 40 deg
dont know what it has now as have done other mods since, i will have to get around to do another one
if you believe what mit's say gpx 150kw at flywheel
gr 139kw at flywheel

we've spent a huge amount of time on the modifications doing the equations and various different prototypes. not just a case of well we gained X that'll do we always looked for a little bit more.
could be the dyno or he could be lucky and have a engine that when it came out of the production line was basically blueprinted. there is a 10% +/- allowance built into engines as they come off the production line. this allows for variances in each individual piece.Why are you getting 94kw at the wheels with a stock gr engine, dunno.
the only way to compare cars is to use the same dyno with the same settings (i.e. shootout mode 6 is what we always use).Dynos must vary a great deal? Every car and dyno is different but i wouldnt expect there to be such a huge difference.

no idea to be honest, but looking at the engine i'd be suprised if you got any change from 5k and honestly you'll be lucky to get more than 10kw for that price its not worth doing it.
what i've seen from all my recent work on the 6A12 is that Mitsubishi spent a huge amount of time tuning it and beyond mods that circumvent emitions standards (exahust / cat / pods) you won't find a huge gain anywhere.
i have a few ideas we are toying with at the moment but i'm keeping them to myself until such time as it works out to be feasible and cost effective.

Eh, blueprinting just makes sure everything lines up. You won't get many gains from it if you leave everything else, but it allows you to increase the power output in other ways.
I'd be happier raising the rpm cutoff on a blueprinted, ported engine than one that hasn't had that work done on it.
Mind you, I'd balance out the cranks and connecting rods first =)
Must remember that it isn't always the individual mods that make a difference, but the combination of mods.
Therefore, you should always know what you want in the end to achieve before you undertake anything.

Oh. BTW i never put up my dyno figures.
All figures are on the Hypertech dyno.
I'm getting 106 kw ATW with my current mods.
Funny thing is, the tyres I have now changed the dyno reading from my last set of tyres before extractors, the old set was getting around 105kw without extractors =P Might you the total diameter is probably slightly bigger with the newer set.
So yeah, currently at around 106kw
I was getting around 100 with only exhaust and air filter.
and around 104-5 with a tuned V-AFC added into the mix.
These figures seem higher than what most of you guys are getting. We're deffinately going to have to have state shootouts to find out what everyone's getting.
Too bad we don't have a control car that we can use =)
