Has anyone replaced a 205/50/16 profile tire & 16" wheel with a 215/40/17 on 17" rims?
ie. about the same width, but lower profile
if so - did you notice if you were able to (on a track or private road ) get the car around corners faster before the tire scrubbing came in, and - if the wheels were prone to spinning easier in either a straight line or in the corner where they were scrubbing, compared to the 16" wheels?
that is - did the 17's let go in corners before the 16's of the same width...?
slipping...not providing any more traction, so they're making heaps of noise and not able to hold on/track perfectly with where you want to go
was watching some motorkana last week end and i noticed cars with very low profile tyres were spinning them on the start (compared to higher profile fat tyres) when they give it too much. and in the corners low profile tyres looked like they were turning much more precise (faster, more accurate) into sharp corners but if they accelerate too early going around them, the front end would slip very fast because when you accelerate the front lifts and the balance of the car is shifted more towards the back and i dont think the low profiled tyres had any 'give' for that sort of thing because they arent 'spongy' at all. the higher profile tyres had heaps more grip on straight line takeoffs but didnt look very sharp in corners and was hard to tell if they had less grip or it was just 'spongy' with the same grip, but less direct-ness.
so was just wondering if anyone noticed any difference in traction-loss at the limit switching from 16's to 17's.
My rear end felt a bit looser when I first got 17" wheels but after a while I've felt that there's more traction coz they're wider tyres than the stock 16".
