Insurance questions
Can anyone tell me if your insurance skyrockets if you put a body kit and wheels on?
Are there mods you can do performace wise that wont make it go up.
Water injection?

It's going to depend on your insurer how much your premium will increase by with modifications.
But wheels are the most obvious ones.
When I was with my Just Cars, my premium went up by $100pa when I included my alloys ($1800).
Also, if the value of your alloys are worth more, your premium will increase relatively. But again, it might be different from insurance company to insurance company.

I'm with Famous and they don't really have any problems with wheels and bodykit which is what I have - the only thing that affects your premium with them is if your car has performance mods which "increase engine performance significantly". Pod filters, CAIs and exhausts are not classed under this category however, according to them.

Just Car must assess each person individually so to speak instead of a specific policy type deal: My alloys are insured for just over $3000 and they didn't increase my premium, only an additional excess of $600 if the alloys are involved in a claim. I also spoke to them regarding bodykit extras etc...and they said no extra premium or excess so you may be lucky.

Allmost all companies will insure an under 25 driver with an fto, BUT the premium is what makes the difference.ray wrote:hi guys
i just want know which company is doing insurance for FTO and the driver's age is under 25.
I called so many companies when I was looking for insurance. Such as NRMA, Young and cool, Just Cars, Famous Car Insurance, etc, etc. What I found was that with some companies like NRMA, you will get a different premium estimate every time you ring.
Also, the majority of campanies wont accept your no claim bonus if you have never held a policy in your own name(eg - Not as a nominated driver for another vehicle such as your parents car). "Just Cars" has this policy and they wanted $4,775 premium (What a joke).
I found insurance to be the biggest hassle in buying my car. All I can say is DO YOUR RESEARCH to find the best suited company for you.

if you are not being charged extra for the wheels and/or body kit, then obviously you are not covered for them, so you should really be concerned more about whether you want them covered or not. but it is important to at least let them know of the mods and have them listed on the policy so that they cant use that against you in the event of a claim - although i got away with adding items after a claim with just car... i was pretty lucky i guess

I insured my FTO with Import Finance and Insurance Ph 07 5561211 Fax 07 5561233 or email: autoinsurance1@hotmail.com, they gave me the best price but I am over 25 and on full no-claim bonus but they also insured my daughters Nissan Skyline she is under 25 and low no-claims bonus and still were ther best price , once again it is worked out on an individual case. Hope this helps some one.

I did a little homework before buying my fto. For me (under 25, in SA, rating 4) it is costing around 1800ish with just car insurance. If you live interstate say sydney, expect that number to be a little higher. Comprehensive insurance is meant to cover everything on your car - that is stock
With Just car, they will add an extra $100-$150 for a decent set of mags, and i think about $120 for up to 3 minor mods (cosmetic - spoilers, upgraded shocks, and i think exhaust system) I think they told me around the 250 mark for unlimited mods short of turbo provided you tell them all. Famous car insurance on the other hand dont charge more on top of your premium for mods. However i found their rating 4 insurance to be a little higher - and i wasnt going to mod my car before next march anyway (should be down the rating 3 by then) so i will chop and change depending on rating and how much each mod insures for. Once i start modding it will be better for me to be with Famous as there is no additional fees to the premium for mods.
ONE MORE THING!!!!!
I found that insurance companies CAN be flexible. I talked Famous down from $2600 to $2000 for a posible policy with them (based on a $18500 car value for a 24yo). Shop around, although they have "set" rates, they still like to beat their competitors. Even Shannons dropped their premium quote down from $3200 - $2450.

hey daz, have you confirmed with them that if they dont charge you extra for say a $2000 set of wheels, in the event of a total loss claim, they will pay you out the agreed value ($18500?) + $2000 (factoring in depreciation)? or just the agreed value?Daz_FTO wrote:Famous car insurance on the other hand dont charge more on top of your premium for mods.
that's where the difference may lie... just car paid me out extra for my wheels, side skirts and stereo.

I'm with Just Car and have to pay an extra $100 per year for $1300 rims. They also said I have to pay an extra $600 excess in which case I politely told them to fornicate off. Basically, if my rims got stolen alone I would have to pay $1050 standard excess plus $600 extra for theft plus $600 extra for rims!?!?!? That's way more then they actually cost. So I haggled with them and got the extra $600 excess removed
