Do POD filters work?!?!?!
I've rea dmany articles and am completely unsure whether these work or not...
Does a pod filter + cold air induction actually give a performance gain?!?!?!
How about panel filters?

check out the pipework on the standard airbox (including all the pipework underneath your car) you will find that there are numerous areas where there is serious restrictions on airflow.
if you go for a foam panel filter you will get some improvements however in my opinion you get even more from a full cold air induction kit (that is designed properly). I would recommend waiting for our kit to come out in the next 2 months and upgrading then. it will be a bolt on kit that shouldn't take you much more than 15minutes to do.

hey ellusion
i got a gpx and added a simota pod filter a few weeks ago. I replaced the pipe with some hard plastic piping. I also got a heat sheild made up which is important. I got it dyno'd before and then after. Before - 91.7, to 94.9kw
So i got decent gains from a $30 filter. It also sounds pretty kickass too when the mivec kicks in

Hello,
Does any one know if the pod filters are illegal?
Last time I heard a while back that it was illegal and that for the pod filters to be legal they have to be encased in a air box..
So the pod filters that have those bomb shells around them are ok, but the pod filters that don't have any covers are illegal....
And I spoke to a guy in autojoy few days ago and they said it's still illegal...
And one heard otherwise?
Thanks,

this is correct, we will be building carbonfibre airboxes to go with the pods soon. we just need to have a production piece of the air intake finished first. We will also get engineering certificates for them that you can wave in the police face if they ever inspect your car.fto12345 wrote:Hello,

Not many people get defected for them, those that do have very noisy cars or were doing stupid.
There's a picture of my heat shield up in the picture gallery if you want to ahve a look at one.

When i went through the pits, the guy said since it was secure (secured to the body by screws) there was no reason it would cause any harm and went through alright. I am not sure if it was because it has a heat shield around it, but he didn't say anything about it.
If any one can host the pic i'll show you the heat shield.[/img]

Jetlee,
You saying that all you did was replace the pipe that goes to the airbox, added a pod and heat shield and instantly got performance gains??
I thought you needed to have some piping from the bumper to feed it cold air... Didn't think just adding a pod could make a difference as it would suck hot air.

You'll actually find that if the engine is sucking in more air (hot or cold) it will make more power, however cold air would give a bigger gain, I think. Just remember that engines are basically pumps. The more air and fuel that is going through the engine the power it will make, thats why a good pod filter and exhaust will make good gains.

FTO12345: We will have custom built intake systems shortly that just bolt on. Heat shields we can make for you i don't remember the exact price for ones that fit in the existing cavity but i can find out if you are interested.
Our Heat shields include a snorkle that goes down below the car which helps to feed in enough air. The existing pipe-work from the bumper doesnt' supply enough

Hello smorison,
Thank you for that..
I am interested but I guess I wouldn't really know until I hear some prices..
Some prices would be great if you can find out..
And when would this be ready from UAS?
Also, do you know if you can get the works without the air filter if you prefer to use other brand to what UAS is going to use...e.g. K&N..etc..
Thank you once again.

Hey all, as far as POD filters go im sure they are LEGAL if they meet the following:fto12345 wrote:Hello,

Thanks,
1. Can only be used on EFI cars
2. Can not be oil based
3. Any air sensors etc. have to be retrofitted into the new set up
4. Must be secure in the engine bay i.e. not rattling around
Also the boxes can be removed, u dont have to have the POD in a box but for cold air needs id suggest boxing it off with a custom aluminium box. However since i drive a mkiv supra im not sure what CAI's etc. are available for the FTO.
Cheers
