They don't use second hand parts, but close to it, all they use is low spec obsolete technology & mass market it like new at a cheap price.

But for those who know their stuff wouldn't pay half of what Dell are asking.

Interesting. Not that I'm defending Dell but I bought my current Dell (a P3 866) about 8 years ago and it's been running pretty much 24/7 ever since and it's yet to have a problem.

I am currently planning to buy a Dell Insprion 9200 (or 9100, can't remember) laptop as every review I can find says it by far and away blows away any other laptop for desktop replacement gaming machines. If you've got anything contrary to this, I'd like to see it.

Well i'm mainly pointing at the Dell home desktop they build, just check out their P4 2.8Ghz crap, I had a customer brought one & decided to upgrade it as it haven't got enough "grunt", and with no suprise there is no expansion slot for AGP or PCI-E & some model don't even have PCI slot

The processor is a 1MBCaches (2MB Caches had been the industry standard for at least 2yrs now ) its also a 533Mhz FSB (800Mhz FSB been the general standard for 2-3yrs old now). You can't even buy these antique processor as brand new except maybe at those Sunday market or swap meet, thats with a big maybe too.

If you just a plan user you won't find a problem with Dell or HP or similar. But once you try to do a bit more to it. Its just a giant tin can.

Don't know much about their laptop to be honest, but their $20k+ server is pretty good though, at that price, it better be ehehehehe

And to answer your question, who ever wrote that laptop will blow any gaming desktop away, he must me on drugs. ATI, Nvidia & Intel had admit all the laptop graphics card are no where near the medium level of desktop graphic cards. In fact the highest benchmark score & frame per secord they can get out of a "high end" laptop graphic are same as the top of the line desktop onboard share memory graphic accelerator, which use similar technology.

Hint why they call laptop graphic "mobile" or "mobility". They might have the same number as the TRUE desktop graphic cards, but there is no way in the world it would beanywhere near it's performance.

I can't find 9200 or 9100 in current Dell offer, but i did found the 9400, which i take it's the latest current model. It stated, it's either using a share Intel graphic (up to 256MB, which mean theres go your RAM) or 256MB Nvidia GeForce Go 7800, which have a similar performance as a Desktop Nvidia 6200 128 PCI-e. No offence, but it can't even replace a simi decent gaming machine.

But anyway each to there own, I hate them because they are not flexible enough to my liking, but to most people, its just a dam computer, as long as it work, thats all they need to know.

No, the review said it blew away any other desktop replacement laptop. And the benchmark scores were pretty impressive from memory. Can't find the review again right now.
In looking for it now, the Inspiron XPS seems to be coming up with a lot of hits now. It looks like the successor and by what I've read is approaching the same capabilities of a desktop gaming box.

If you can find laptop that can do 150 frames per second, then you talking about near the same capabilities of a destop gaming machine.

But by saying that i've read one review about the XPS, its had a average frames rate of 52.6. Which is very impressive for a laptop, as most are average at 30 frames per second for so called "top graphic" notebooks.

It was also kinda cheated in a way as it can only display 1280x800 & not the full normal XGA of 1280x1024. So if you put that in perspective, it really is around 40-45 frame rate per second. Nevertheless its good for a laptop, but just like it's server, it better be for the price its asking.
