Exhaust Mods

Post by smorison »

so after we've done all this work who wants one? what am i talking about?
http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... FTO&page=4

We can ship these anywhere in australia and you can have your mechanic install it (should take 1 hour or less)

Hello,

Simple question..

The price it has been quoted, $450 - $500 for full exhaust install?
And $100 for non full exhaust install?

What is the difference between the two?

Thank you.

umm about 400 for the first run assuming we can get 10 or so i already have 4 confirmed so we're well on the way. the price covers only that piece not a full exhaust system, however any exhaust or extractor work without doing this is just wasting time as you can not realise the full potential of your modifications.

the 100.00 covers installation of it if you require that

sounds great... I'd be keen to see the dyno graphs! :D

Is it free delivery interstate or the offer is only for Sydneysiders only...?? $400 sounds pretty cheap for the claimed performance gains.

If it's $400 delivered (in Melb) count me in!

...and exactly what is it called? will it have instruction manuals for the exhaust shop to know what they're doing?

I'll get you the cost to shiping to melbourne won't be much i wouldn't expect,

instructions are simply undo the bolts for the old piece at the extractors and cat.

remove old piece

put in new piece

do up bolts

the dyno runs are legit and i'm just waiting on the printout so i can post them up. and yeah it's damn cheap for the performance increase.

so what would u actually need to make the most of this mod???
i guess a decent exhaust would help?

what was the test setup that was used to get the gains u mentioned?

Hey Stephen, do you reckon you could post a side by side pic of both the stock front pipe and the UAS one? Well actually, you've already got a pic of the stock FTO one, but I'm interested to see how they plan to do the mandrel bending for the rear-bank to the merge collector for the UAS pipe.

I know you've got the pics for the one already fitted on your car, but it's difficulty to see how the bending has been done (for the rear). Most aftermarket front pipes I've seen have at least a U-bend (mandrel) for the rear-bank to hook around to the collector. Just wondering what UAS is doing differently to be able to get it straight down to the collector.

Also, what size is the pipe work? 60mm?

Thanks mate.

I think we're pulling the prototype off my car this weekend as soon as that happens we can definately take a side by side shot. The piping for the prototype is press bent (why? well its cheap and easy to do to test a theory) the finished product will be mandrel bent which will create even more power.

I will have to check the diameter of the piping it does vary as there is the single pipe from each bank that join together into the exhuast (pre cat) this part i know is 2.5 Inch not sure what the first part is, but easy to confirm. They did test a couple of different sizes and found that they started to loose low down torque with a couple so i'm sure whatever it is, is the right size.

Rob: chances are hills gave it to UAS to do or subbed it out in some way as UAS supply most of the workshops in that complex.

Yeah mate we gotta hook up again my tires are bald at the moment (Doesn't help when doing dyno runs) need some new rubber then we'll have to see what the results are :) tip v's manual and so far my little tip is winning.

posted in another thread w/o realizing there is already one here...

anyway, how do these UAS ones compare in terms of performance to the RPW ones?

price wise, i think UAS are cheaper...

can we have a look at comparison pics of the stock n UAS pipes?

do post the dyno once its up!

Cheers!

anyway, from what u said, the 3-1 extractors have not been remade but is the connecting joint just below the two 3-1 extractors to the part just before the cat that have been done up, am i rite?

Cheers!

where they connect? exactly right. from the flange at the bottom of the extractors to the flange before the CAT.

Harvey (UAS mechanic ex Ralliart Mechanic) didn't seem to worried about the extractors at the moment, he saw the biggest gains (Apart from a 3inch cat which i already have and full exhaust) was to do this pipe work, and i tell ya what driving it today (first day with the prototype on) has been a lot of fun, and the extra torque alone made going up hills feel like i was driving on a flat road.

I have to say its well worth the investment. either on its own if you have an existing sports exhaust and highflow cat or as part of more extensive work (i.e. a stock FTO)

Hello,

So let me just get some thing clear here.

So it's going to be a straight bolt on kit?
That any mechanic will be able to do?
And that this mod alone is going to give you some thing like a 4~5kw gain without any other additional mods?

Then I am very much interested.

Thanks,

we haven't tested it on a unmodified car but yeah it will improve performance no matter what modifications you car has. If you have a stock car and you want to do exhaust modifications this is a must have as your just wasting time if you only do your muffler (well this is my opinion anyway)

1.what size of a CAT do u guys recommend??
2.if im going to do my exhaust on UAS(Piping, CAT, and the exhaust UAS r selling)u think how much gonna cost me on this one...i want to know so i can compare prices...
3.when r u guys going to do a CAI piping kit on fto GR's...

1. Well i have a 7 litre CAT deisgned for Turbo cars on mine, and i have no issues with it what so ever... works great and doesn't restrict.

2. Well it depends on the muffler you pick (eg titanium ones are about 450, stainless 290??? - price is approx - ) it depends on what you want reused and what you want new (i.e. all pipe-work v's using existing pipework where possible). I've spent about 1500.00 on mine which includes this latest mod but it's been over a couple of purchases, and it's cheaper to do all in one go. best thing is to call into UAS and have a chat with them.
3. AHHHH :) well we had a GR in the workshop on tuesday (??? Gav that's when you were in wasn't it?) we think it'll be pretty easy to adapt the new intake to a MAS sensor. It's going to be about 6-8 weeks before the new stuff is available to test it out and i think Gav has dibs on the first one but once that's sorted out it'll be a simple 5 min job to install.

who were you looking at doing your exhaust work?
