Have finally had a bit of a chance to tinker. As much as the sunscreen airboxes work, ive been thinking about something a little more......permanent, and was wondering:
a. How well it would work.
b. what you all think.
Ok, only at the cardboard stage at this point, but would be looking at 2 layers of folded metal with insulation between for the job eventually. I currently have an ARC intake hooked up to one of the UAS pipes. While most people have a pod, I dont see why this idea wouldnt work for both. First some piccies:
OK, now for the explanation. First thing to note is that I havent made a hole for the intake pipe to pass through yet. Secondly, rather than closing the top in, im looking at using the bonnet for that. It seems to me that there is no reason why the top needs to be insulated. All pictures other than the last one show the bit in the engine bay which effectively will shut out the air from the engine. The last bit shows cardboard attached to the underside of the bonnet. Im not sure at this stage whether it will be easier to make the thing conform to the bonnet from underneath or attach a bit to the underside of the bonnet that overlaps the bit in the engine bay.
OK, thats the idea, now the questions.
1. How much heat do the fans between the engine and the radiator put out, is it worth blocking out this air.
2. How much heat does the part of the engine under the location where the pod/ARC box is fitted put out.
3. Thoughts and suggestions.
I realise that this is only half the picture, still have to run pipes to the bumper, but thought I would tackle this one first. Pipes from the bumper would come from underneath.
