work in progress- update with new pics

Post by shue »

went to check on my car yesterday. its been stripped off and the kit fitted up. it took a while to get on but its finally on and the car is gettin painted up this week. few things my panel beater told me were

1. if we remove the windscreens the rubbers holding the windscreens are gonna cost heaps or i might have to get aftermarket ones coz the original ones cant be saved. is that true? i want them all removed coz i dont want a crap job and dont care to get other ones as long as they dont fit like crap

2. if the side skirts r blended in he reakoned it will look better but i tought it would look really plain.

3. i cant decide what kind of mesh to get on. smaller diamond ones or larger :?

4. hes only going to rub back the original paint and sand it back completely and spray it another colour. i wanted it stripped to bare metal but he reakons thats gonna cost me heaps to get it sand blasted to bare metal.

theres a pic, tell me what u think of his work so far

what about vibrations, wont the blending crack n stuff? i was thinking get it blended in but i want a line showing where the skirts r . coz i like the top lippy bits. would have just cut them off like indyfto's otherwise ...
hmmm m3 mirrors naahhhh i like these ones especially when they turn in :D

In my ever so humble opinion, don't get it blended, you lose the harsh racing lines that the d'cautro creates (which is what gives it the hawtness).

How dificult was the front bar fitting?

Did you already have that plastic gaurd at the bottom of the radiator? Cause my car's missing that, and I want a replacement.

Looks great so far shue! Can't wait to see the after pics!

you will have to ask the sprayer that o assume? I dont mind a line at the bottom, but where the skirt comes up, i really prefer that blended in.... im a smooth lines man. indys was an xceptionally hot looking fto.

it took a while but wasnt too difficult. just need to find a willing panel beater coz he said he had to play around with it for a bit .

yep the plastic bit came with the car

yep dandy. yea i decided to remove the windscreen and maybe go different rubbers if i cant get the fto ones. all up i got quoted 3 k including heaps of panel work, fittin my kit , delockin and dewinging the boot , removing every panel rub back and respray in crystler graphite except the engine bay.

one more question. do u guys know how to clean up engine bay? steam clean? or what do i do?

Looks fantastic mate good on ya.

My bro's car got a full respray recently just sanded back and paintjob keeping the rubbers on (due to not being able to get replacement ones).
Still came up tip top condition in the end.

I reckon don't get it blended.

DO your engine bay once your car is ready. Just cover the electrical bits with plastic bag, spray degreaser around the engine bay, and then wash off. That's the easy way. I prefer to use prepsol and some muscle.

Looks good - love that front bar.

As for the mesh - bigger diamond otherwise it looks a bit like flyscreen IMO.

Can't wait to see the finished product!

im about to do the same as you shue.. though a friend and i are gonna rub mine back for carton of beer.. how much is this guy chargin you.. including paint and stuff. my paint , clear coat etc glitter. it has cost me 450$ for my materials.
so me rubbing it down cost me 0. and to get it professionaly sprayed its gonna cost me 500- 700$ including booth hire.

i rekon it would look mad if u blended those skirts in .. with no lines.. but then again u are right about bumps and stuff.. unless u pernamently glue them on . and use rivets to make em tighter and not moove or something.

now thats a proper bodyshop nice one shue cars lookin mint.
not bad for a bumper that will never fit
hats off to freddy m8i proper oldskool bodyshop best in oz.
it wasnt freddy who fitted it for me. it defo fits if u find a panel shop willing to spend some time playing around with it to make it fit, making things more expensive than a normal body kit.

Just out of curious, how much did it actually cost you in the end Shue, including the kit & fitting.
