OK, Im back.
After 2 months of waiting for the replacement for my rear engine mount, I got it on Tuesday. Today, it was installed, and....
The squeak is as bad as ever.
The front mount is not broken. I have hit it with a bit of WD40 to see if the noise persists and it does. The noise occurs when I press or release the accelerator pedal. It is loud. It does not happen when the car is stationary, only when moving. If I apply the brake while stationary and press the accelerator (in drive or reverse), the noise does not occur. It does not seem to happen above about 70km and it does not happen when the road is wet.
It is definitely a sound that you would associate with rubber.
What is it people......
Any suggestions appreciated
The noise wont go away

Hey,
I had a squeching rubbery noise that occured occaisonally when I first got my FTO that sounds similar to yours. Does it sound like it comes from the transmission tunnel/footwell/firewall area?
Before I knew any better I took it too Pedders and they replaced a couple of suspension bushes for me. Noise gone......at a cost.....
Since then I have replaced all bushes with Super Pro poly jobs so couldn't tell you exactly which ones were originally replaced by Pedders.
Think it may have been the bushes that are replaced with the Whiteline anti-lift kit.................sorry havent had my coffee yet...........
Cheers
Chris

Belt
Ill check the belts, but the noise seems heavier than a belt would make. It's definitely a loud tortured rubber noise.
As to where the noise is originating, can be sure but yes seems to be tunnel/firewall sort of area. But suspension has been totally replaced, including a steering box rebuild. Must admit im starting to lean towards suspension again though. Rained this morning. Within 5 min on the wet road, the noise pretty much disappeared. As the accelerate/decellerate/brake actions seem to cause the problem, I keep thinking struts (as the car will compress/decompress the struts when any of these actions occur.
Maybe I can get the car on a hoist and put the engine under some load with the wheels off the ground and see what happens. If I still get the noise, it is in the engine/mounts, if not, then suspension is the likely candidate. Does that sound right......

Yep, Mine was similar......
Tortured rubber noise on acceration and deceleration and over certain types of bumps. Really inconsistent and really annoying!!!
Disappeared when wet (raining) or when I washed the car.
See if I can dig up the Pedders work receipt over the weekend if I still have it.......
Cheers
