Sounds like you've taken a fuse out, investigate and replace. If it blows again track the reason down.

check that you have a decent earth for the head unit..remember that the std. fto unit lume does not contain an earth...you may have to make one. however I'm not sure of the reticulation for the wiring i.e. if the cd it seperatly fused...havn't looked in the manual either...u can though :P

That's true but it doesn't have to be a wire, metal chassis of stereo on metal of car will work. But I nice chunky cable is good. Still bad earth on stereo isn't going to affect the lights. Hence check the fuses.

The origional FTO lume does not contain an earth - hence some1 has added yours to use an aftermarket head unit..like we all have.

A bad earth can cause similar problems to the ones discribed and can easily cause a fuse to blow..

mine didn't...why? cos this is the std lume wiring for an FTO:

Permanent live: red/black
Accessory +12v: blue
Illumination: green/white
Earth: 6mm nut
Antenna trigger: pink
Rear left speaker+ : yellow/blue
Rear left speaker- : grey/blue
Rear right speaker+ : yellow/red
Rear right speaker- : grey/red
Front left speaker+ : white/blue
Front left speaker- : black/blue
Front right speaker+ : white/red
Front right speaker- : black/red

I can't be bothered going into the detail of why a bad earth will effect other things like lights etc...but it does...although I have no idea if this is the actual problem :)

Actually I’m intrigued as to how one component with a bad earth can cause another to fail, even though on the same circuit. Do tell as I could learn something. Sorry if I sound like a smartar$e that’s not my intention.

There's no circuit if there's no earth but why does that stop the lights or cause the fuse to blow? Wouldn't there need to be a circuit to blow the fuse?

actually... i had a problem like this before on an old car and because it was badly earthed, as soon as I turned on my driving lights the dash fues would blow. so it's possible to cause an overload somewhere else if it's badly grounded (no return path for the current).
