Yep, step a) reset the system! Disconnect the battery for a few hours, overnight is best. When you start the car up it may idle funny for a day but after that it could resolve the issue (ie. start idling back up at 500-700rpm).
If this doesn't work then you'll need to replace the idle stepper motor. Someone will link you to the relevant sites.

Resetting ECU does Squat all when its the stepper motor.
Guys you dont have to buy a "FTO" stepper motor at all. You ask for a quote and they hear FTO they will break your bank.
Magnas, Pajeros, GSR etc all share the same stepper!!!!. LAter models work too and are abit slimmer and have a black backing instead of that ugly brown. Mitsu was smart as they shared teh same parts bin for this one. So go to the wreckers and get one.!!!! take your old one to compare.
How do I know this? Cause i been through it!!!
And yes stalling is most likely your stepper motor playing up. Before you put on your new one. Just clean the throttle and the new stepper with carbie cleaner until they are totally clean so they shut properly.

Yeah I understand where your coming from but for a good stepper idle motor you shouldnt have to do that. As the idle stepper runs out of step naturally the ecu needs to relearn the wear and tear of it.scarecrow wrote:Minh i've had the above stalling problem once before, just happned out of the blue one day, car would stall at sets of lights. Disconnected the battery for a bit then it was right as rain. The ECU needs to relearn the position of idle.
And instead of leaving the battery disconnected you can always pump the brakes a few times and that will discharge system too.
