My baby girl is in getting all the bugs cleaned off of her from when we drove to Adelaide the other week. (1358km's by the way - each way)

I was quite surprised, I turn off of Old Windsor and onto the M2 and as I come round the bend - looks who's there :P

You beat me to the posting bit

Teania,
How comfortable was FTO for such a long drive?
Also, how was the fuel bill like?

I am planning to go to Brisbane from Melbourne during the Christmas time.
Thats about 1600 kms and I am planning to do this at nonstop; 2 drivers (me & gf, she will drive not as much as me) and in 17 hours.

hey mxysxy
becareful when u drive long distances at high speed
petrol wise wont be too much but watch out for your radiator
as when u drive long distances your engine heats up a lot
and if u leave the aircon on for like 2-3hrs u will soon realise that aircon might not be cool anymore becoz engine is so god damn hot!!!
i did a 3 hr drive non stop to prt stephens at constant 120km/hr
and man was the aircon playing on me!
but after liek 2hr rest the aircon was cool again:)
jsut watch out for overheating!
make sure u get mechanic to check waterpump and see if its leaking water!!!

Hi Mxysxy

Sorry to not get back sooner.

We took my FTO over (as oppsoed to Kavemans). I found it really good. Took 14.5 hours to get there, we encountered various conditions that slowed us down a bit. My car is the more comfortable of the two for long drives as I have softer suspension than Robert. We drove in lots of 3 hours non-stop and then changed drivers - this allowed the other person to grab a decent snooze in between stints.

From memory I think we averaged about 13kms to the litre fuelwise. The only time the car was stopped was for refuelling. We did not suffer any temp issues, it was always below the 1/2 way mark on the temp guage. Speed averaged out (distance/time) to be 100km/hr. Not that we ever exceeded the posted limit

FTO617 - if you are finding your FTO getting hot after a few hours, I suggest you get it checked. This is not the first very long journey I have taken mine on and I have never had this problem. They did replace my waterpump at major service. Do you maybe have something blocking the airflow at the front of your car?? Also sounds like you may need to get your aircon system checked, it may be leaking if its not staying cool. I generally get my car checked and serviced at 6month intervals, use Motul engine oil and the Redline ATF.

Good luck Mxysxy with your trip.

Cheers

Thanks All,

Although I did lots of 2-3 (and haven't has heating issue) hours non stop trips, never had a chance for anything close or over 1000kms before.

My major concern is not the car, but the comfort.

Considering I don't have a fancy stiff suspension setup, it should be OK.

I don't really trust the gf to drive 3hours straight, however, she should be OK close to 2hrs, which will give me enough time to sleep/relax.

The way I though is that if I leave Melbourne around 3am early morning, I should be in Brisbane for dinner around 9pm.

Hope this is achievable.

fto617, I made a diagnostic tool to constantly measure the heat in the engine bay. Will post some info/pics soon. This might help you to identify the amount of engine heat you get. This tool is simply a digital thermometer with 2 temperature sensor. I put one sensor deep in the engine and the other one in to the CAI box. Combined with standard outside temp reader comes with the car, you know the outside/inside the CAI/inside the engine bay temps. Cool toy.
