When starting the car in the morning ...

Post by Anubis »

Since I have owned my FTO in the mornings I have to wait for the motor to warm up otherwise

-the engine cuts out and wont hold the idle at 800 so I have to manually keep the revs up untill warm.

I then can drive the car but if its not 100% warm then

-it idles high 3000 then drops down to 2000 then to normal idle

-sometimes revs from 2000 to 2500 back to 2000 then to 2500 as if you are tapping the throtle by it self

So my question is - Is this normal? If not what is wrong?

Thanks in advance! :)

Sounds like the stepper motor mate....

Poms go to a lot of trouble to fix them, I'd piss it off & replace it.
Kempys have got 'em.

Yep definetly sounds like a stepper motor issue. First off try the quick easy fix, disconnect the battery for about an hour (shouldn't take more then 30minutes). When you start the car it should be idling too low (ie. it should stall at sets of lights etc) but by day 2 it might fix itself. If this does nothing to fix your problem then replace it.
