Conversion

Post by dstocks »

Got a question....

I know that this has probabl been covered off before, but not sure where so I will ask again. What is involved with doing a tip to manual conversion????

I know that the cluster is different, the console surround is different, the pedal, transmission and shifter assembly is different. What else is involved (apart from the time).

Im guessing that the wiring may possible different as it is for things like the rear aerial.

Im sure there must be a number of people that have looked into this.

The plastic insert console surround (goes around stereo, aircon, gear stick) is not different, but theres a plastic gear surround on the tip (as opposed to a leather shift gaitor on the manual). I'm not sure if you already knew that, but just incase I thought i'd add it :)

Why

So why when you order the stick on dash stuff (which I have got) do they ask if manual or tip????????. I assumed this meant that they are different.

Plastic piece is the same. Did my conversion and everything fit back perfect....

Off the top of my head you will need:-

Drive shafts (possibly - I did)
Gearbox
Gearhifter, boot & gearknob
gearshift cables
Pedal box
clutch master cylinder and lines
flywheel
clutch & pressure plate
tachometer
Possibly a new Gearbox mount
And of course all necessary fluids....I used redline gbox oil.

Oh also the reverse light plug may have to be changed up a bit to fit back so your reverse lights come on and also the wire that detects the auto in park for the car to start, any half decent mechanic/electrician can sort this out without any issue.. Apart from my custom gearbox mount since I didnt have time to order a new one, my whole conversion took less than two days total.

I think thats about it but stand corrected.
May I suggest getting a short-shifter and LSD if money permits 8)
