I have been looking into doing a cold air induction for my FTO. I know RPM do a kit that takes the POD in front of the radiator, but has anyone thought of or tried using a scoop to blow air via the original air intake piping to the intake box to blow over the POD. I am sure I could make a small scoop in front of the radiator, and behind the mesh grill and connect directly into the old air ducts. This will have air from the front grill being forced to where the POD sits. Also if this works what about connecting back up the original air intake with a K&N flat filter replacing the original with air being forced through the scoop in front of the radiator straight into the manifold.
I am unsure this will give big improvements but will try if others think this will work. I was worried about water being splashed on my POD but the MITSIBISHI original ducts seem to have enough turns to prevent this.

Has anyone tried this? Do others think it will work?
Waiting to hear other suggestions.

Also like most people I have put a POD on the original rubber intake, the first bend off the manifold worries me, as it seems to restrictive. The only alternatives are metal intakes but these heat up and defeat the purpose.
Anyone else worried about that first bend?

i have the facelift front bar and i ducted air from one of the holes in the bar to where my pod filter is...i found that even if you do this, you still have to block a lot of the hot air that comes from the engine and the radiator fans when they start blowing...so i made a heat shield as well and it works quite well...it looks a bit dodgy cos its a diy job...hehehe jiwan has seen it...dont think he was very impressed cos it wasnt painted at the time heheheh

i agree with you on the intake though...the "squashed" part next to the battery kinda does seem restrictive ... but some people do have a smaller section in the intake pipe near the throttle body to speed the air up just before it gets to the tb.

are you reffering to the ARC intake chamber and APP air intake duct.

Cause i have it in my car.

Yes that is it.
Do you have problems with water getting on to your pod?
Does the cold air help?

what parts did u use for your cai chainstar, I am about to do the same with my car (run pipes from the hole in the face lift front bar)

for the heat shield i got some metal and attached it to the chassis below the filter... i still found that a lot of heat got in around the sides ...when those radiator fans start blowing, hot air goes everywhere...so i had to get some plastic to fill in the gaps around the metal....

for the CAI piping...well this is gonna sound really dodgy :oops: ....but it works really well...i used anything i could find from plastic bottles to sections of metal pipe, duct tape, cable ties, pvc piping, etc and screwed it into the chassis where there were other holes.... there is also a hole under where the pod sits and i fabricated a duct from the bar to that hole...

i would post some pics...but i dont know how to....and its embarassing how dodgy it looks heheheh..but hey...it works...i did the fan test and cool air definately pumps up there....

i'm looking for a cold air induction thingy majig!

currently, i've got a air filter, n my heat shield is a PIECE OF CUT OUT CARDBOARD

hahaha

there is a piece of heat shield glass available, the glass is called perspex!

im a dodgy c**t, so im using a cardboard cutout to block out the hot air

but atm im looking for a way to get more outside air into the airfilter!!!!!!

btw, did u guys remove the bottom part of the stock air filter?

coz its bloody hard to unscrew!
mine is still sitting there!

should i take it out or not??

coz my air filter is heavy, n it puts weight on the stock pipe that goes into the engine... the old airfilter bottom box just helps it to keep it up......


how do u take it out?

heheheh you better be careful...that cardboard might catch fire....you wouldnt want to blitz someone in a race with your CAI, only to have smoke coming outta your bonnet 8O hehheeh

the "fan test" is just my way of testing if my ducting is working....i put a fan in front of the opening of the duct and see if the air pushes up to where the pod is...thats all....and it works....its amazing what a couple of hours and some creativity can come up with :P i just have to paint my ducting black and itll look half decent

It's actually pretty good to leave the bottom half of the aair filter box in place. It helps to direct the cold air onto the air filter, and cuts out a little heat from the engine bay.

damn the diagram didnt turn out right.... oh well

yeh i think i'll leave the bottome half of the air filter box there then!

there is a pipe/funnle thing, that leads from that box, down to the side.. the thing is pretty small...... how can i take it off and replace it with a home made one ??.......

if i just used plastic bottles stuck together with duct tape, would that work? im just afraid that the plastic will melt!

btw, i got a veilside frontbar, dont know how im gonna get a 'custom' made one to fit ;) hehehehe

to get rid of that other piping, you have to take your front bar off i think...thats how i got mine off...there are some bolts that will be hard to get to if you dont...

i just used plastic bottles, duct tape and metal cans...the plastic wont melt cos its so far away from anything hot...

PVC pipe is the way to go for cheap ducting.
You can get it in heaps of sizes and with all sorts of angled attachments, just make sure you dont make it too tigh or too small.
also, it can be bent if you carefully heat it with a blow torch. hmmm carefully with a blow torch, that doesn't sound right... but i know it works, just dont let it catch fire and dont breath the vapours.

Typically, a Cold Air Box is the way to go isnt it?? most sheet metal places should be able to fold up a basic one for you.

Hi,

Sorry to dig up some thing so old...

Just wondering if any one has an idea what an ARC air induction kit is like?

I noticed that it sounds great, but does it work?
It's very pricy as well!!!

Any one with any experiences or opinions?

Hey d_stry_r, where u get that bonnet scoop from?? is it from Creative sports called aero bonnet??? and does that bonnet cause a lot of dust to build up in the engine, and how much did u get it for?
