ok girl question, whats a grounding kit for? and what does it actually do? k stop laughing and tell me. :oops:

Is just another name for earth wiring kits, it helps if you got stereo buzzing nose, & it generally help provide better or more stable voltage to your car components like head units, amp, headlights, & what ever use electricity.

Its not a dumb question at all...

It's usually multiple earthing wires run from the battery to various points on the car, including the engine block, chassis, firewall, etc...

My work colleague swears it makes a difference on his DC5 Type R, but it probably wouldn't be noticable to most people...

How does your version R compare the the DC5R??? Straight line and cornering???

Hmmm does NZ get the real DC5R or just like in Oz, a Type S re-badged :evil:

I know the real DC5R will run rings around the Version R. But you would expect that from a 174kw stock motor which have a similar weight of a Version R.

Yep, we watched a DC5R run Bucket down on the straight at Wakefeild... And the DC5 had a passenger as well :x

Well I've never driven a DC5R, but I have been in the one I mentioned above - it has a few modifications. And I was extremely impressed - it was bloody fast! 8O

I would say in all honesty that it would probably clean up my car both in a straight line and in handling. But then again it is a car which is at least 5 years newer and over here they cost 3x as much as my car would (for a decent one anyway). So I don't know if its 3x better ...

And in NZ we get both the nana-spec NZ new model DC5R and the JDM spec one as an import - lucky us :) . The one I went in was a JDM one...

Comparing a GPvR with a DC2R is probably a bit fairer...

Buckets car is also auto so that's an unfair call as well. I been in his car... sorry bucket but it is SLOW! Comparatively speaking of course

I wouldn't say DC5R is unfair comparison, ok straight line yes it is, but handling no, as the DC5R doesn't handle as good as a DC2, and it also has MacPherson front struts and like mentioned similar weight to an FTO.


I think the FTO's main problem with handling, is the V6 at the front. Probably weighs a few times of what a K20A or B18C7 weigh. V6 cast iron block Vs 4 cyl all alloy

But also the DC5R has 17" lightweight wheels standard, Brembo brakes, a 6spd gearbox, and the benefit of 5 or so years of newer technology. Whereas the GPvR and the DC2R are of similar age and are build to be direct competitors...

Hehe, of course it was slow Phil, it was a totally stock (wheels aside) tiptronic when you went for a ride.

Now I've got extractors and a decent filter kit in, she moves a lot quicker than she used to (still not as fast as a manual though, oh well).


But yeah, that Type R definately took off on me about half way down the track. But I didn't have much problem with the DC2 (dunno if it was R or not) on the day.


As has been mention before, the FTO is 10 years old now. So take the money it would cost for a JDM DC5R, buy an FTO and chuck the left-overs in and I'm sure you would hand that DC5R its backside on a silver platter.

A comparison - I'm selling my GPvR for $11.5k NZD and my work colleague is selling his DC5R (which he is returning to standard) for $28k NZD.

I'd like to see what a GPvR with $17k NZD spent on it would go like :)

thats funny could of swarn even though it dosnt have the lsd of the dc2 that allmost every car jurno agrees the dc5 is the better chasie in the corners becuase its a sh*t load more ridged among other things

I always read that the DC5R became more bulky and soft compared to the DC2R
