Ideling problem again. help!!! does ECU reset really help???

Post by poster »

i have got a big problem with me car..since i got it i dont have any problem at all....!!! until now....

i think the problem im having is the "ideling problem" which i read from the pass forms...after about 10 mins of driving the car will stole at the lights which means when im not pushing the accelerater the idel will go to ZERO!!!!....

i have try to turn my thruttoe needle and it worked for a little bit...and it drops out again after a few mins of driving...sometimes i cant even start it....

one solution is to reset the ECU is that correct ??@@?
and i have also heard that to reset the ECU is really not good for FTO....it will make it loss speed etc..... -.- is that true!??!?!?!!?

what SHOULD I DO!??!?!?!? i will be lost without my FTO...

You can try an ECU reset, but it sounds more like your stepper motor is faulty.

Which state you from again? So ppl can point you to the right place to have it check out.

The stepper motor is held in by 2 bolts at the bottom of the throttle body, you will need to remove your intake pipe to access it. :)

It's really easy to do, I've just replaced mine.

Just remove your intake pipe by undoing the jubilee clips.

Disconnect your battery as you have to do an ecu reset anyway, you may even want to remove your battery to give you some more room (my battery is relocated to the boot so I didn't have that problem.)

Remove the 2 bolts (8mm IIRC) from the stepper pull it out, make sure you also remove the rubber gasket ring that may still be in the throttle body.

Get an old rag and put some WD40 on it and just wipe the hole where the stepper plugs in to.

Replace the rubber gasket ring that you should get with the new stepper motor, bolt on the new stepper motor.

Re-connect intake pipe.

Re-connect battery after approximately 40 mintues from when you disconnected it.

Start the car and let it idle for at least 10 minutes.

You may also have to adjust the the screw on the throttle body that should be located under the black bung. Do this once the car has warmed up.

Have a look here for an idea on what you will need to do:

You need to use a socket set rather than a screw driver. 8mm if I remember correctly.

By doing an ecu reset you are reseting how the car drives. It will need to learn how idle again hence why you leave the car idling for at least 10 minutes after you do an ecu reset, also make sure that you turn everything electrical off, air con, radio, lights etc.... You will then need to go for a drive for at least 20 minutes taking the car through the rev ranges. If your car still doesn't idle correctly for the next couple of days don't worry sometimes it just needs time to re-learn. If you have a tip gearbox then the car also needs to learn how/when you normally change gears

I've lost count how many times I've done an ECU reset without any problems. But I also know of other people who have had new faults show up after an ecu reset.

Hope that helps.

Yes you will need to do an ecu reset at the same time.

If it doesn't work buy a new stepper.
