is it inside or outside the car, could be the cv-joints, thats the first thing that springs to mind when some one says their front wheel drive car is clicking when they turn and gets worse the more they turn

Yes sounds like a CV joint to me. Sometimes you will only get it in one direction and that means only one joint is gone.
Sometimes you only get it at different speeds - probably because of the weight transfer of the car.

how long has it been playing up mel? you should get a steering specialist to check into it, coz it'll be highly dangerous if something broke while you drive and cause you to lose control of where the car is heading ...(touchwood!)

does the noise sound like it is coming from inside the gaurd or somewhere else. It couild be that the spring is not seated right. I think they have a bearing at the top which need replacing eventually of if it has hard severe impact. Take it to a suspension shop and ask for a quote to fix.
They will go over the car with you and at least you get to find out what it is for free.
