6a12 axles( FTO tranny with LSD including axles-How much?)
We are currently working on a 97 lancer with a 6a12 mivec engine(fto). we're having problems with the axles, we are using the stock axles(4g13 axles). The stock axles are not reliable at all. it usually breaks after a few launches. anyone here who knows what alternative axles we can use? thanks

Breaking 'em on launch?? Whoa, have you got a big hairdryer on the motor or what?? How are they busting? Uni joints, CVs, stripped splines or sheared shafts? If you shearing shafts, I'd be looking into having some custom one machined up out of a nice high carbon steel. Alternatively, there are some other guys here with 6A12s in lancers like spetz or sxc_96... you might wanna PM them & see what they use

If they are second hand driveshafts, are they definitely running in the same direction as they were before you fitted them?
I had to have smaller EVO size inner driveshafts fitted to my FTO along with the EVO III LSD, and the RalliArt engineer commented that breakage is extremely common if used driveshafts are ever stressed the "other" way. The torque applied to them one way effectively sets them up for handling only that direction's twisting force.
I can't see why they would be running the opposite direction, but I thought I'd mention it.

PS. I've run for about 45 minutes elapsed motorkhana track time on r-comp tyres with the smaller inner driveshafts, and they are fine. Plus, countless hours of very hard work on r-comps for the preceding 3 years on the original stock driveshafts. So they aren't innately crap or anything.

Re: 6a12 axles-need help guys
You might want to use the stock 6A12 axles and driveshaft. Thats what I have in mine and didnt have any problem of breaking anything. I've done fair amount of 1/4 runs and tracking and have not had any troubles at all.Lancer_6a12 wrote:We are currently working on a 97 lancer with a 6a12 mivec engine(fto). we're having problems with the axles, we are using the stock axles(4g13 axles). we would love to use the 6a12 axles, but the problem is we dont have any..its very hard to find. our 6a12 engine originally has an automatic tranny. do u know any alternatives? most of the 6a12's here are galant's. i think the axles will be too long to fit...by the way your car is really quick in the 1/4 mile...any advise so that we can run as quick as your car? thanks manYou might want to use the stock 6A12 axles and driveshaft. so is it turbo charged ?Lancer_6a12 wrote:the tranny came from a gdi galant. iam from the philippines by the way.tks
has the auto transmission internals been strengthened ?
Does it have a high stall if so what one ?
What is the power output ?
when you busted the axle did you get any wheel hop ?
your options are expensive and possibly better to put a evo or FTO gearbox or transmission into it and use the axles from the evo or FTO.
Or go 4wd with the post 93 galant vr4 box and axles
I would look at your post 96 VR4 too as the each front axle on this model is the same length and would bolt straight up to the 6A12 mivec

when you busted the axle did you get any wheel hop ? probably
Correct me if i am wrong
Being a Non turbo Put a LSD into it will spread the load on too both axles and learn how to launch it properly with out axle tramp/wheel hop and i doubt you will break them again. Also it is a lot easier to replace front axles then to repair gearboxes. think of them as a driveline fuse

can't be certain on that one you would need check bolt holes. But it could be made to fit if you know any good fabricators that could cut up your original tranny and weld the bell housing on to that box. I have seen it done on a few cars some of them puttting out over 600/700 Hp.Lancer_6a12 wrote:got your point man.thanks. another thing, will the 4g92(mivec tranny with lsd) tranny fit the 6a12 or do we have to look for an original fto tranny with lsd?tnx
I would try kemps'y and mitsubishi used parts in wellington (new zealand) they might have fto gearbosx with LSD, Unless you are going for a turbo box the FTO box would be best, it has reasonably strong axles i only know of one person that has broken them, and i doubt you will be ever putting that sort of power through it.
PS. you can make anything fit if you get the right person, with the right skills doing it, and you got the cash to pay for it.
