Who has done a CAI kit on their car?

Post by SilentBob »

Thinking about putting a pod filter on my car for the hell of it, but would prefer a cold air induction method to stop it suckin in hot air from he car...

anyone done one of these? ive seen the kit on UAS for about $380, and i know RPW has one or 2 on their site(though no idea on $)....

any suggestions?
I know it wouldnt be to hard to do a DIY job but i cant think of where to/how to do it

Thanks

Did you try S-Rally (same place you got your dials) for a quote? I'm sure they can craft up something to your needs... I would be interested in just the CAI piping if you are going for it... maybe they can better UAS on price?

I guess the simplest DIY job would be to get a vacuum cleaner hose and run that from the front bumper up into the engine bay. I think somebody mentioned using piping you can find in the plumbing section of the hardware.

I guess any sort of tubing that is flexible enough (or can be bent into the right shape) is probably good enough for a cheap DIY job.

A quick search for DIY cold air intake results in:

CAI

I had the one that sits where airbox goes.
RPW modded it to pick up from underneath bumper. It whistles now so I dunno if it is better airflow or not.
David told me they developed an all metal CAI when they were using my car to do the turbo kit. Dunno if it is finnished.

The cheapest option is, put on your POD filter but leave the bottom half of the original airfilter box in place and sit your Pod in this. Then where the original airintake sucked air from above the radiator cut into this plastic and make a DIY scoop. Mount this in front of your radiator so air will be forced through the original piping and blown onto your new Pod.
