Hez, I didn't find anything wrong with the Apexi setup or build. The reasons I chose it and liked it were:
1.It was a Japanese item, and I know it has been specifically designed for the FTO (ie. straight bolt-on).
2.Looking at the Japanese FTO websites, many of FTOs used the Apexi N1.
3.It was the lowest priced brand compared to the other Japanese items I was looking at (Fujisubo and HKS).
4.I had a custom made cat-back for my previous car (non-FTO) and I was really dissapointed with the piping work. Might have just been the place I went to but it turned me off local exhaust places. I also got a quote from Hi-Tech Mufflers and the price was pretty much the same if not a little more expensive than the N1.
5.I like the angled-style look that the muffler is mounted.
6.The sound of the muffler is not overly loud. I even got the Apexi N1 silencer but I have yet to find the need to use it. But I did find after a couple of months, the exhaust tone did get a little louder. Please be aware I do not have a pod filter, and this has an effect on the exhaust tone.
7.Performance wise, I do not have any dyno graphs to back anything up. But I find there is better throttle response in the Mivec to top range. Look, it could just be the exhaust noise playing in my head though!! In the lower range, some people have attest that they have lost some responsiveness on their aftermarket exhaust, but I found no difference on mine.
Well, sorry for the long post but that's about it. Yes, you have to pay shipping cost at Perfect Run. Ring them up or send an email to Taki and he should be able to give you details. I managed to get a small discount because I also bought a strut-brace at the same time. The box the Apexi N1 system comes in is pretty big. If you are looking at getting other parts, it's cost effective to get them all at the same time.
Let us know how you go.

Jap brands are renowned for their exquisite quality and guaranteed fitment, but performance wise even locally made products are on par with thebest and the quality is still there (though not as 'perfect-ish' as the Jap brands)... at the end of the day, it's all about personal preference, sorta like deciding to wear either Calvin Klein or Bonds undies - both are good quality, but still serve the same purpose...
