forum subject basically covers it, car squeaks a lot when its raining, im guessin the belt is maybe loose and slips? i done know

Yes I have the same thing and suspect it's a belt. Only noticable in gear (tip) and when we have wet weather. Extra noisy when more load is put on such as turning the AC on.

Check your belts or have them checked.

awwww :'( the squeaks have gotten soo much worse... i have to let go of accelerating then go again and it stops

change your belts.... youre gonna have to do it sooner or later anyway

its pretty cheap to do and very easy

Why change them if they are not worn or damaged? Have you checked the tension etc?

good old WD40

i found that wd40 would fix the problem until it gets rainy again... i tried that for about 6 months and i changed the belt last week and the problems gone...

but you could be right.. maybe it was the belt tension all along... i really have no way of telling...

the belt in particular that i changed was the air con belt... it was in need of changing anyway and since i was doing my timing belt i thought i might as well change it...

The drive belts just tend to dry out after a while. Then, when there's a lot of moisture in the air, they squeak.

I get it when I park in front of the garden retic overnight... or on cold rainy mornings in winter. New belts won't squeak - for a while.

I get my garage to use some lube spray stuff on the belts every so often, to keep them supple. I don't know what they use, but it works well. I do recall they tried a different spray one time, and the bloody belts got so noisy all of a sudden I thought I had a serious problem!! But reverting to the good spray stuff fixed it again.

yeh tried tightening the belts and no success the horrible sound stays and i get it in non wet days now too
the belts dont look worn so i dont know, ill replace em and possibly the pulleys, see what happens. Should put a guard or something underneath the pulleys to stop splash getting on them on wet days, just a thought.

u's spray WD40 on the actual belts??!?! that aint good

before you replac eanything, go to any auto store like repco or supercheap and get some 'belt dressing'. its in an aerosol can... you spray it on the belts and its meant to stop squeaking...

probly costs about $10...worth a try

Did you check both the air con and alternator belt?

I had the same squeaking and it was the aircon belt.

i checked the two belts on the drivers side that are exposed, i believe they are the aircon and power steering belts, i also noticed i had a lot of brake dust build up next to one of the pulleys... cleaned it but still squeaks very loud, im embarassed to drive now sounds horridbur yeh ill try that spray, sounds like the go. Thanx guys.

just buy new belts!!! they are old, need to be changed.

And for gods sake, dont put WD40 on 'em!! It'll dry & eventually crack them...

wd40 works on the pulleys... makes em quiet until next time it gets damp again... i dont think anyone was suggeting wd40 on the actual belts.... and if they were... thats just strange..

i heard wd40 isnt suitable to quieten down pulleys as it acts sort of like a degreaser.

Also agree... Most of the tensioner pulleys run on grease packed bearings & WD40 will erode that grease away & run the bearing dry. The most common culprit is the alternator tensioner wheel.

Consdiering its about $80 bucks to replace, just do it when the belt is changed - its suposed to be changed every 80,000kms - and with more 'rigorous' driving, more often than that. If you must lube pulleys, I'd recommend running a thick oil into the bearing itself. Even then, thats a temporary solution.

yeh im goin for the replacing of the belts and may aswell get the pulley while im at it, anyone got some part numbers and are ralliart belts any good? i checked out the mitsu-fto.org site but its been down for ages dont think its coming bak up again, had a handy workshop section.

I got exactly the same problem, and I have had my belts replaced in the last 20,000 kms, that pulley have you got a part # ?
