Anybody has info about Singapore Airport Duty Free
Hi Guys,
On my way to Turkey, I will stop at Singapore Airport for 2 hours.
I am planning to get a Canon PowerShot A510 Digital Camera as a present to my sister. I can get this camera from Melbourne at around $300, and claim the %10 GST at the airport. So, it ends up about around $270.
I was wondering what are the changes that this camera might be super cheep at Singapore Airport Duty Free.
It will be great if you can share your experiences, or anybody from Singapore to tell me the exact price, or any web link suggestions that I can look up will be a great help.
Thanks.
PS: I will also be staying at Singapore on the way back for a day. Any nice shops there that I can buy some nice stuff for my FTO?

Hey Max,
Can't really help with the prices at the airport, but I suspect you will find it's not that much cheaper there.
On your way back, you might like to visit a place called Sim Lim Square, its basically 5 floors of computer parts, and another floor of electronics. I bought a digicam there a few years back, for a lot cheaper than it went for in Australia. Being Singapore they are all willing to barter and you can get yourself a very good deal. But I'm guessing you want the camera before you get to Turkey...

One hint for everyone who travel to Asian, don't tell them you a tourist, as that mean to them you only be there once & no repeat business, so you won't get the "local bottom line" deal.
Tell them you either just move to their country for work or study, & say if the product is good, you get your friends & work mate to buy from their shop too.

it just depends how much you value a warranty....because it wont be honoured by local canon dealers....
on an item of that price, i personally would just buy it here and claim the gst back...
if you were saving massive amounts and not just 50-60 bucks then you would consider it, but for such a relativly small saving, i'd personally go the local option...

Thank you very much for all your help guys.
I ended up going to Teds in the city (Melbourne), and bought the unit for AUS$290. SO, it will end up about $260, once I claim the GST at the airport. Happy with this deal.
I can not believe the price difference though on the same street.
There was another camera shop almost next to Teds, they asked me $400, and Camera House asked me $380 for the same camera.
