Questions for those who had the UAS Cold Air Ramp Pod Kits

Post by FTO338 »

I remember when I was looking at the UAS CAI kit, the intake pipe is fairly large compare to the original one.

So I was wondering, for those who got this kit with a big battery, (eg: 13-15 row or 4wd) do they have any problem? Do you have to relocate the battery or get a different size/type??

And if someone got a picture of their engine bay with these kit & a large size battery, which he or she can post up, it would be much appreciated.

I find even with my small battery the new pipe rubs against the battery mounts. (Only a little bit though)

I think if you had a large battery it may rub too much.

the intake pipe is quite big. I've got a pretty small battery but the mounts still rub against the pipe. I'm pretty sure sooner or later the battery mount will chew a hole into my intake pipe. If you want a pic of the damage to my intake pipe caused by the battery mounts Kev then PM me with your Email.

Yeah thats why I asked here, as i'm thinking of getting a different CAI setup to mine, & I remember yours, & wonder how many ppl have the same problem & who had solve it.

But seems like even with a small battery its going to have the same problem. :(

I have what I assume is the standard battery (it can with the car when I got it a few years back).

The battery is skinnier? than the battery tray so I put the offending clamp in a vice and bent it so that it is positioned away from the UAS intake pipe.

I had problems with the pipe rubbing up against the hole in the box but assumed this was something to do with me using an APEXi pod rather than the UAS one. This was easily fixed by altering the angle of the APEXi brackets.

Was looking at moving the battery to the boot shortly (for a custom intake) but don't see any point when the existing battery seems to be working fine at the moment.

Cheers

Hey,

I found my intake pipe was rubbing so i went down to my local electrition and he actually cut the bracket shorter and then re welded it. So now there is a huge gap between the bracket and the intake pipe....

Ill trying and get some pics up .....

i have a 3 inch stainless steel intake pipe that just fits in touching my standard size battery (clamp has been removed)

Also if you are looking at doing a CAI box, have you thought about carbon fibre? its roughly $200 for the box etc and looks wikkid =D

Kev, i don't think the size of the battery matters, the actual bracket will still be there even if you have a small battery.

What i have done with mine is bent the bracket so it doesnt touch as much onto the pipe.

Yeah this CF thing had been brought up before as mikey did a groupbuy not long ago. But i'm not looking at a box atm, as i said, i've already got a CAI setup with heat shield, but I like the idea of bigger pipe to match the new TB.

I'm running lots of electronic junks atm, so smaller battery isn't an option.

i havent got the CF box yet, but i am planning to soon.

its from a guy that makes all sorts of CF stuff, quality stuff!

btw he is also trying to perfect atm CF covering, so instead of replacing the panel, you just cover it in a layer of CF. Obviously not a weight reduction, but its for the looks. First person in Australia to do it =)

(although i would never get this done)

you dont really need the battery clamp at all.... so that would give you some more room to play with =)

Camo i'll be interested if your mate can make a pipe out of CF, as i heard is pretty hard to do. And if that goes well, i'll get a CF box to match as well. :D

I think I posted mikey's one in the Tech section before, if not, it will be in the Groupbuy section.

shue, this guys CF boxes are trialed and tested, he has made them before for the FTO. its quality stuff!

as for the rest of the stuff u need - intake pipe and pod and piping etc its all easy to get/do.

you will be looking at around $400-500 for a quality setup that you can put together yourself or with the help of a friend.

let me know if you are interested and i can help you get the ball rolling or make some more detailed enquiries =D

Kev, i just spoke to him and he said that really it would be too expensive and a bit unrealistic to have a perfect pipe, but he might be able to do something similiar.

It would be a pipe made in 2 halves, each semi-circle would have a flat bit coming off the side so that you could bolt the 2 sides of the pipe together (if that makes sense to you ;p )
