Fibber intake box PROTOTYPE

Post by paladin »

I have been asked about this a lot and I havnt got any pic hosting (to lazy) (pm me soemone who can add them please?)

bear in mind mine is unfinished because i havnt had enougth time to get to clark rubber for some rubber!

i will take soem photos tomorrow and show you guys the basic one i have in at the moment (i have a larger one but its been too fiddly getting into the bay properly) as it has no rubber on the edges at the moment it will also allow you to see how it looks inside (spacing)

Well its 100% DIY:D

I am going to write up a guide for everyone when I am happy with it but atm its not 100 finished.

Basically it’s an oversized box the fit around the air pod model off a wax box
The reasoning for this is that the box losses heat a lot faster then plastic and the box is a bit fat behind the pod so even if it does get hot, chances are the air will blow out rather then into the pod.

It is then fed by a pipe from autobarn from the front of the car into the bottom of the box and into the front of the pod

The box wraps around the intake tube via a rubber sheet, this is not fibber because fibber will vibrate and eventually cut into the tube WHICH WE DONT WANT: P

Total cost is about 100$ DIY (quoted 400 by a pro)

Any fibbershop (look up boat repairs shops if you have trouble) and get 1l of risen and 2m of the fibber of your choice (carbon looks better but glass is much easier to use and dissipates heat easier)

So step one
Cut a wax box around your air pod to fit as large an area you can without going over the top

Step two
Staple it into the right shape

Step 3 start applying tee first layer of fibber (you will want to do 3-5 depending on the quality of what you get) and repeat till you have a replica of the box that is strong enough that it won’t snap easily but not so ridged it is inflexible

Step 4 take the box off the mold (if you used a wax box this should be realllly easy if not your in trouble!) and place the box into the engine bay, you will want to use cable ties on the bottom of the box and attach them to the battery stand. Secure the front by placing over sized washers on the bolts around the head lights etc to hold the top layer of fibber down.

Step 5
Run the tube from the front of the car into the front of the box

Step 6
Drive it for around half an hour and feel the heat difference inside the box!

check your e-mail  i miss typed the addy!

the images show whath te box looks like inside and how the basic box is placed.

the surounding area around the intake pip to the engine and over the engine bay should hten be covered with heat resistant rubber.

the key to this design is to keep the air aorund the intake cold, this is acived largly by the air cavity behind hte airpod so that the hottest part of the box (the closest part to the engine), even when hot from a hard run will not cook the air around the airpod, but rather behind, which is then blown out via the intake pipes blowing into the airpod and then around the box circulating the air

sorry should read waxed box

i mean a box that is either covered in wax by you or a box which has been printed ontop of with a nice wax finish (like a sub woofer box etc)

this is simply so that the resin from the fiber molding process dosnt stick when you are making the air box
