URGENT HELP NEEDED!!!!!!

Post by rxboy »

Recently my automatic transmission crapped out on me and I've had to get the whole thing reconditioned. I've been without my car for 3 weeks and still counting

Now, I'm being told that they need a "drive train" thingy for the transmission and they have to wait for 4 weeks to get it from Mitsubishi Motors in Japan. The mechanic told me that he couldn't find the parts anywhere in Australia because I've got a 5-SPEED transmission, which is quite rare in Oz.

Now I hope to prove him wrong with the help of u guys and gals on this forum.

SO IF ANYBODY KNOWS OF ANY 1997 OR ABOVE FTO (WITH 5-SPEED TIPTRONIC TRANSMISSION) BEING WRECKED ANYWHERE IN AUSTRALIA, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. Otherwise I might have to wait another month to get my car back  .

What about a late model magna with the 5 spd box or try wreckers like Just Jap www.justjap.com or the like.

Just found out that even though the new Magnas & Veradas have 5-speed INVECS-II boxes, they still aren't compatible with the FTO. Oh well

Still trying wreckers all over Australia. Have already called up some in Qld and NSW. Maybe I'll strike gold soon.

Anyone got a 97 or later tiptronic FTO they wanna write off on insurance?

I suggest trying to source a 95+ Galant.
The FTO shares many parts with the galant - including the 6A12 engine (only in some galant models).

Not a bad idea actually..... but the warranty company won't allow that and I will have to pay for the whole thing.

well then why not let the warranty company sort out the hassles for you then?? why should you do the leg work for them?? aren't they / insurance company supposed to follow up on the repairs for you?

Problem with insurance companies etc is they do not like to pay out. They will attempt to keep their dollars in the bank as long as they can, this boosts their interest etc and they loose less.
Often, if you rely on the other companies and do not chase it up yourself, you can wait months for it to be sorted. Take my car after it was stolen, still haven't got it fixed and even when she does go in the shop it still might take a couple of months.
Then there's the accident the missus had, took 6 months for the wankers to pay out the claim......
Good onya RXBOY, for havin a go, I'm doin the same. The system is supposed to be there to protect you but you gotta remember they are also protecting their pocket.
Not to sound rude but have you ever had to deal with one of these companies Mikey? Even if you get a repairer who will do the job the way you want, nine time out of ten the insurance companies force them to do it according to their "policies" or they will not pay the claim. The dented front fender on my car cost about $800 new from Japan. I refuse to have second hand and they refuse to fit new so it has to be panel beated. That's OK but the cost to panel and paint is $750 anyway, now tell me the easy solution, or should we just leave it up to them for another four months?

well i gotta say i have been fortunate enough for not having to go through all that hassle... i was insured with AAMI once and it was all sorted within 2 weeks (but this was a panel repair on my old crapbox Lancer). Can't say if other insurance co. are as reliable when it comes to imports though... hopefully i will never have to go through such mess *touchwood*

hope y'all get it all sorted out soon! :)

I put a lot more pressure on them and I finally got my car back. Dunno where they magically produced the part from but at least it's done. I had to pay approx 50% of the claim because I wanted my transmission reconditioned rather than a 2nd hand one.

My warranty company had to fork out about $1300 and I originally paid $850 for the 3yr warranty. So I guess it didn't turn out too bad.

Now I'm not sure if the transmission is 100% ok or if it's the INVECS relearning my driving style. Fingers crossed :D

I've had my car back for over a week now and have noticed that sometimes when I switch from Park to Drive or from Reverse to Drive, the back of the car shakes for a moment. It never used to do that before my transmission stuffed up.

Anyone know what's going on?

I think it's the exhaust, cause I've noticed it shaking quite a bit after I shut the door. One time, there was also some kind of snap noise from the rear when I put it into reverse, but tranny seems to be working fine.

XXXFTO: I'll get this checked out and will get back to you about what the problem is.
