Fault codes erased... when do they come back?

Post by spetz »

Ok I had a fault check done on my car

Number 42 and 62 came up.
42 is some fuel pump relay
And 62 the dual length runners.
Now the codes were cleared, then I took my car for a 3 minute thrash and did it again, and they didn't come back.

my question is shouldn't the error codes go back as soon as something doesn't work?
What's going on here???

I could be wrong but I believe the car may run in an 'open loop' mode or safe mode for a little while after a computer reset to relearn a few basic things after which the sensors start to work properly etc... if so then maybe you need to drive it around a little more.... anyone else got any ideas?

The errors should appear again immediately if the fault is there.

I expected them back straight away too.
But how would the codes get there in the first place if it doesn't do anything now?
The computer would be clear when it went into my car as it sat around for a while.

And what does 42 actually mean???

could have been a fault on the car that has been fixed in the past and the codes weren't erased...

you never know but as said they'll only come back when the problem is (if) detected again

The problem is that the computer was sitting around unplugged, out of the car for a while meaning any error codes would be deleted due to no current into it.

The engine does lack top end power, I always noticed that compared to other 6A12 MIVEC's therefore I was already expecting 62 to come up.

42 is a bit weird though
