Outside Temp on Climate control

Post by spetz »

Has anyone found this to be quite inacurate?
Mine always seems to be showing a warmer temp than what it really is

My car doesn't have it (go the GPvR manual air con), but my old VR-4 used to. And yeah, it was a bit of a liar at times. I found that having the car sitting in the sun on a hot day would throw it way out, or sitting with the engine idling for a period of time. Although I did discover one rather chilly day that when it registers an exterior temp of 0°C, it started beeping to warn me...

It's gone :( - now carless...

Yeah, mine always reads around the 30 degree mark, give or take even when I know it's definitely not that temp outside. I thought about finding the sensor and piping in some "clean" air but quickly realised that would involve effort ;)

Mine isn't to bad. it's only when at the start, once u drive for a bit i think it reaches semi-accuracy. :P

Mine seems to be off about 4 degrees on warm days
On colder days/nights it seems almost spot on.
My sensor sits right in front of the radiator. Would moving it to the side somewhere make a difference? ie more acurate?

im the same as spetz... its always pretty accurate, except on a very hot day it goes a bit crazy - but maybe only 3-4 degrees over?

Dont say that now!!!!!!! 8O :x :(

I bought 2 new temperature sensors and display units to measure the efficiency of my new CAI box. One in the CAI box, another in the engine bay. Also was using the stock outside temperature reader to compare it to outside environment.

Now you guys saying it is inacurate. I have to get the third one of those temp sensors now. :P

Well isn't it better now that you know?
Rather than believing "misleading" information? :D

odd. Mines spot one - usually to within 1deg, whether she's just been started, or been running for a while. Checked her a few times this week....

Mine is usually wrong, and sometimes by quite a bit. I always remember the cruise to Lithgow - we lit a public bbq to try and keep our hands warm, but the bbq plate was only getting warm at best. It was never going to cook anything it was soooo cold.

However, got back in the car and it tells me that it is 18 degrees. Yeah right!

Usually 3-4 degrees out though.

I have checked mine against a calibrated Thermo Couple from work. on my car it was reading within 1 degree from about 16C to 32C. Because it is just behind the front bumper, when the car is stationary it should give a high reading from radiated heat from the engine or heat build up from the sun. but after a couple of hundred meters driving, it should give a reasonable reading.
