Map Reading Light prob

Post by Grue »

My map/reading lights work with the switches, but not when either door opens. Door switches are fine. Interior light fuse in engine bay is fine.

Found a couple of other people with same problem who've never found a fix. Anyone got any ideas? Would be big help!

If you leave a door open does the "open door" light in the dash work?

I was mucking around with the interior lights today and I blew a fuse (I hope) and now that light doesn't come on anymore (nor does my stereo :( ).
LED ALL the things.

For some reason when my 'interior light' fuse blew my radio stopped working..... Have now idea why. When i replaced it, radio and lights started working again. :? Just this time not when doors open.

When i open the doors and key is in ignition the buzzer sounds, and ignition-key light works - so not the door switch.

the fuse for the remote and interiour lights are the same, have you checked all fuses, and the fuses under the steering wheel ?

yup - checked every fuse by hand. Looking at wiring diagrams to try and make some sence of them, but bit heavy going!

yey! - got them working!

Instead of hunting for the burnt out circuit, i simply ran a wire from the door-switches to the maplight neg-wire.

Remove the plastic pillar trim next to the front windscreen on the drivers side - and behind it are the map light wires coming down from the roof. There's a red, black, green, and green/yellow wire.

I spliced a wire into the green/yellow, and took it down underneath the dash - where i then took it to both the door switches.

The door switch wire on the drivers side can be found by taking off the kick plate, and un-clipping the carpet. behind the drivers seat, in-line with the door switch, you'll find 2 wires. It's the yellow u want.

Same for passenger side, but only one wire to choose from.

All i needed was wire, tape, and some wire cutters. 40min job. Might want to unhook battery so as not to waste any more fuses... :)
