Ebay's FTO Whore House

Post by MrFT000 »

Alright, its been a slow day at the office, and ive been browsing Ebay and have done a search for 'fto', and what do i get?

 Ebay's FTO Whore House.

Now everyone has the right to advertise their car at whatever price and talk it up, but come on peoples - lets not get carried away!

Example 1: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 36952&rd=1

This FTO is apparently better than the rest! Why? Cause it has chrome wheels and is completely stock otherwise!? and no offence to the other FTO GR owners, but how is this GR better than the rest of the MIVEC! FTOs on the Ebay Whore House?

Example 2: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 51751&rd=1

Now this one isnt nearly as bad... (IMHO) Its Mivec, Its got a veilside kit, admits no engine mods but my flame over this one - The FULL CUSTOMISED INTERIOR - Now... i would have thought FULL would at least include DOING SOMETHING TO THE SEATS!!!

Now yes, I know im trying to sell my car, and I even got carried away and wrote "One of the best FTO's in Australia" BUT!!! if need be I can back it up! I didnt go to extremes and write THE best FTO in Australia.

I know the irony in this post, because I am giving them free advertising and all, but i just had to express my annoyance at the poor state of the FTO car market ! Its Sh!t at the moment. I wish everyone selling there FTO at the moment good luck.

My apologies if i have offended some people but i really just needed to get it off my chest..

done.

ahhahh Grant, i hear you bro, theres some really interesting "marketing" with FTO lately.

I mean some dude put up his/her FTO & wrote rare spoiler with full bodykits. So funny since when veilside bodykits are rare?

But at least these guys got the model correct & also haven't include their family pets in their photo ahahhhahaha

guys..girls... we all know that people who know what they are looking for are not going to be fooled?

I mean, big deal, no one pays attention to adds like that, and it makes more fun that when you go and have a look at the car, that you can ridicule them haha.

To be honest, I think if you stick to the facts, make it simple, people have more chance of believing you anyway.

but yes u r right... the car market is slow trying to move 2nd hand cars these days - particularly imports!

The best one i heard the other day was "It's a 1.8litre Mivec..." from a dealer. I explained to him that that was impossible - and turns out his agent in japan had been a little free with the truth.

Here in NZ i've seen fto's described as having after market alloys, racing spoiler, full-body-kit, racing suspension... all on a factory standard pre-facelift that's had nothing more than a regular service done to it.

It's the standard GS FTO's with high k's on the clock that make me laugh - some being priced 5grand over the going rate for a decent GPX simply coz the owner lives in the flash part of the city.

She's got "Condition: New" on the listing!!!!!

A "new" FTO, that's damn impressive being that they've been out of production for 5 years ;)

old ladies!!

Post by HEX093 »

ok, someone said "how many old ladies drive ftos"

HAHA!! I saw one the other day!! I was at Victoria Gardens.. (on the top level, near IKEA, I can only imagine she was up there for the same reason I was.. which is to drive my car around in the car park because my exhaust sounds SO SO NICE.)

She was driving a totally stock FTO GR, and she would have been at least 60.

(apologies to those of you that don’t think 60 qualifies as 'old lady.')

I had to look twice.

when i was first looking for an fto. this dealer was telling me about an old lady whose fto was going to be up for sale.

the story he told was, that her husband had died recently, she was well over 60 and she has always wanted her own sports car. they sold her an fto, but after a while she found it too difficult to get into and out of. she was selling it at a very reasonable price. just wasnt for me haha.

so they do exist.

Just out of curious, I send this guy an email, asking what 15yrs rules got to do with FTO, & here's the respond, some people just like to put more sh*t onto their pail of sh*t. Or he just has no idea what is the actual 15yrs rules are.

Hey mate,
This car was imported under the low volume import scheme in July '03. Since the rules changed in feb '05, many cars 15 years & under arent available to the australian public, in which the FTO is unfortunately included. From what im told, cars that were opted for continual import had to meet a certain amount of criteria, which the FTO missed out by 1 point.
The cars that met the criteria then had to be crash tested and emissions tested by a RAWS approved workshop to meet australian standards. All of the info is available on the dotars website at http://www.dotars.com.au. Cheers.
Jeremy.
Just like to clean few of the bullshit he came up, FTO was imported way before July 03, as my friend had one since 98, & I know some of the member had it for more then 5yrs. And 15yrs old rules are generally refer to the cars 15yrs & over, not under.

the GPX, GPvR and GR all meet import regulations and can be imported... (the GS does not)

the only catch is that no importer has sought to buy permits and go through the hoops to comply them... they see more money in turbos... there are no "new" grey fto's coming into australia anymore but that doesn't mean they can't....

classic example of someone not understanding the laws...

most people shopping for FTO's end up here so i'm sure that this amusing thread has answered their questions lol :)
