UAS Cold Air Intake?

Post by ScottyTav »

Hi, I was thinking of doing this upgrade to my new FTO. I was just at Powerplay imports and they said that a pod filter was a waste of time on a standard car and I am better of getting better filters for my standard air box. They said they have a GTR running 55hp with the standard airbox with these filters and would only cost around $100. They said the pod filters do sound better but are overated as a performance mod.

UAS has the complete kit for $395 and I think it has the intake included. Is this a good system? Is the UAS brand one as good as a HKS one etc? Is anyone running a UAS one? How much better does it sound and what power gain can I expect? Thanks

If you are just planning on putting on a pod filter then yes a new filter for your standard air box would be a better option, basically if you just put a pod filter on then you will be sucking in hot air from your engine bay. You really need a decent heat shield and snorkel piping to take better advantage of a pod filter.

And one more thing, UAS don't make Pod filter like HKS, Apexi....etc. They use Unifilter & then put their name on it.

Is the Unifilter they use better than the HKS or Apexi? Is the UAS one the best option for me?

I don't really have the time or patience at the moment to build my own.

There is no real answer for what is better than the other. They all have strengths and weaknesses, i think the unifilter is a foam filter and therefore has a higher filtering property, not sure if it uses oil or not but if so then it makes your car unraodworthy, at least in vic. Have a look in the FTO project section, i think there is a write up on the gains you can expect. More to the point the UAS setup incldes less restrictive intake piping and a snorkel pipe (i think) so it would be the preffered option over simply placing a HKS or Apexi pod filter on.

whilst unifilter isn't the biggest brand name out there... it is used exclusively by the V8 Super cars... the Unifilter has incredible filtering without huge restrictions... i've put up heaps of technical details in the past in posts if your interested in looking for them

Unifilters are oiled - best to cover it with an airbox / shield of some sort to hide it from view or else.......
